Mark Alter

Mark Alter is a Professor of Educational Psychology at New York University and was the founding chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning and served as Chair for 14 years. He has an extensive record of publications , national and international workshops and funded grants in the field of teacher education and special education. He was granted A Fulbright Senior Specialist award in Special Education to Viet Nam , and was awarded The NYU Distinguished Teaching award. Alter and Pradl published” Ending Three-Card Monte in Teacher Education” and argued that teacher education programs must have a direct connection with student learning outcomes and in 2012 Alter and Naiditch discussed the need for highly qualified teachers and, perhaps greater than any time in our history, there are more diverse pathways to becoming a highly qualified teacher than ever before with the traditional university model, alternative certifications, on-line programs, and standardized tests waiving course work.
Alter has an extensive background in the classroom, as well as a PhD from Yeshiva University in special education.
