The graph-based approach has proven to be the most effective method of extracting keyphrases. Exi... more The graph-based approach has proven to be the most effective method of extracting keyphrases. Existing graph-based extraction methods do not include nouns as a component, resulting in keyphrases that are not noun-centric, leading to low-quality keyphrases. Also, the clustering approach employed in most of the keyphrase extraction has not yielded good results. This study proposed an improved model for extracting keyphrases that uses a graph-based model with noun phrase identifiers and effective clustering techniques. Relevant data was collected from selected documents in the English language. A graph-based model was formulated by integrating the textrank algorithm for node ranking, a noun phrase identifier for noun phrase scoring, an affinity propagation algorithm for selecting cluster groups, and k-means for clustering. The formulated model was implemented and evaluated by benchmarking it with an existing model using recall, f-measure, and precision as performance metrics. Final results showed that the developed model has a higher precision of 5.5%, a recall of 5.3%, and an f-measure score of 5.5% over the existing model. This implied that the noun-centric keyphrase extraction ensured high-quality keyphrase extraction.

Data warehousing and cloud computing are modern trends in computing businesses. Data warehouse (D... more Data warehousing and cloud computing are modern trends in computing businesses. Data warehouse (DWH) is subject-specific, time-changing, non-volatile, integrated collection of data and it is a process that helps decision maker in the process of informed decision making. It is also an integrated software component of the cloud which provides support for timely and accurate response to complex queries. The complex analytics involving huge amounts of data with the help of tools such as: Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and data mining are built on DWH model. Similarly, cloud computing provides a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g. networks, servers, storage, applications and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider's interaction. These computing infrastructures when allowed to work together can provide decision makers with immense benefits at minimal costs. Therefore, it is pertinent to consider the contending issues and challenges faced by bridging the gap between DWH and cloud computing as well as proffer possible solutions. The future directions and conclusions are also pointed to and drawn from the paper.

In this paper, we propose a mobile portal architecture that would enable portal application to be used on mobile phones. The system was developed using MySql as the backend and the front comprising of a mobile device that must be Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled. The WAP gateway acts as the middleware and the web server on which Hypertext Pre-processor (PHP) would run. The system is divided into two modules: the mobile front-end module and the application server and database module. The proposed system would assist students of educational institutions, especially, higher institutions in developing countries to do on-line registration and payments of fees on their mobile phones.

One of the major challenges facing most companies has been how to keep their customers satisfied and properly serviced. The existing customer service systems have limitations such as poor customer service and relations. Hence, a real-time customer service system is proposed. The system was developed by using incremental model development process. The front end was designed using Macromedia DreamWeaver 8.0, Macromedia Flash and Java server page. The business logic and the work flow was developed using Java Servlet and Apache Tomcat Server. MySql 5.0 was used as the back end.
