InterDyne MicroReel (mid-1980s) | Museum of Obsolete Media (original) (raw)
The InterDyne MicroReel tape drive was designed for data backups on IBM-compatible PCs, and appears to have been introduced around 1984.
The drives were available as external models, or could be internally fitted in a 3.5-inch form factor drive slot.
The reels themselves used ¼-inch tape on 2¼-inch reels that although sold in packs of two, were used on their own in the drive where they self-threaded onto an internal take-up spool. This meant they needed to be rewound before they could be removed from the drive. They came with special write-protect labels that could be affixed to the top of the reel.
Adverts of the time claimed they could store 10, 20, 40 or 60 MB of data.
