Sony PlayStation Memory Card (1994 - 2006) | Museum of Obsolete Media (original) (raw)
The PlayStation Memory Card was a proprietary flash memory cartridge for the Sony PlayStation game console.
Used for saving game play progress, the capacity of the official Sony Memory Card was sometimes advertised as 1 MB but this is actually megabits not megabytes, and the actual capacity was 128 KB in fifteen blocks. Some unofficial cards were made with higher capacities, but some games will not save to these.
Its successor, the PlayStation 2, was launched in 2000 with it’s own range of larger-capacity Memory Cards and the PlayStation (by then in redesigned form as the PS One) was discontinued in 2006. PlayStation Memory Cards could be still be used in the PlayStation 2, but only with games for the original PlayStation.
