In line with the developing science and technology, mathematical modeling which links up real lif... more In line with the developing science and technology, mathematical modeling which links up real life and mathematics has become increasingly popular, and the number of studies conducted on mathematical modeling has increased recently. This study aimed to investigate master thesis (MS) and doctoral dissertations (Ph.D.) completed over the last two decades in Turkey to understand the portrait of mathematical modeling, by particularly focusing on the Models-and Modeling Perspective (MMP). The features and nature of modeling research that this study focused on involves level of the graduate studies (i.e., MS thesis and Ph.D. dissertations), the completion years, the university contributions, the employed research methods, the participants, the amount of the modeling research involving mathematical modeling activity, and the extent of which mathematical modeling activities reflecting the six design principles of Models-and Modeling Perspective. The subject that I would like to improve my knowledge upon and write my master's thesis in order ... more The subject that I would like to improve my knowledge upon and write my master's thesis in order to contribute to the field that I like is Model-Eliciting Activities, abbreviated as MEAs, as my research project. Let me explain this subject first. The Model-Eliciting Activities are relatively new topic in order to teach children (and engineering undergraduate students at introductory level as well) in a rather unorthodox method. The teaching process involves real life situations and this method of education is more beneficial in some cases that is explained below detailly. The mathematical modeling acts as a bridge connecting the real world engineering and creating mathematical models. They are based on meaningful real life situations to capitalize on and extend further the routine learning of students.
