I must expound on my previous post, as I watched the movie a second time with the significant other, read a few reviews and am able to put my ideas into better words.This film is character driven. Very. Dunst's character included. And one must decide if Bloom is simply spending a lot of time just standing around with no expression because he can't act or because Crowe simply can't direct....OR....if the dilemma (or dilemmas!) his character is facing is keeping him introspective and really unable to react to the barrage of things going on around him. Later, the character is able to finally let go of his pent-up emotions while on the road-trip with his father's urn beside him, coming to terms with the father he never knew, his failure as a professional and finding the renewal that comes with seeing how much is still out there for him to learn about and love.The soundtrack alone is a character, each song presenting itself in every scene to set the stage for mood. I had flashbacks of Harold and Maude (a feeling the director was in fact shooting for). And Garden State. Both are excellent films. That I own. God I'm a geek.Is it a story of pessimism versus optimism? Perhaps. Is it a love story? Perhaps. Is it a coming-of-age for the twenty-something story? Perhaps. And perhaps, it is all those things. I myself have spent my twenties (and thirties) embroiled in my own life. It made me consider what I haven't done and said to my parents, my sister, my friends --- and how I might feel should I miss the opportunity because of my own selfishness. Film-goers will find a character and bond with it. Baylor. Coburn. Jessie. Mom Baylor. Or perhaps a combination. There's something for everyone to identify with. And if you don't, you completely missed the point. I read many reviews that said Bloom proved he can't carry a film, and I don't think that's entirely fair. The movie as a whole dictates how the leads will be perceived. Perspective, folks. Bloom's accent slips on many occassions and makes his diction rather muddled. Dipthongs are ugly in American English. That's gotta be tough. All things considered, I think both leads did rather well in a very poignant, charming film about the complexities of life, love and family.

I have sadly neglected my little community, but...life...ya know?However, much as I predicted, my favorite Brit has returned to his roots...the STAGE! Not a moment too soon, I think. And I am beyond pleased with this move, as I didn't wish to see such talent swallowed up by the abysmal pit which is Hollywood.This link http://www.incelebration.co.uk to In Celebration is the official website for this new project. The roll, though small at best, is being praised by critics and is perhaps a good stepping-stone. Stage is nothing like film. And rather than arrogantly charge in and demand a large roll just because of his celebrity, Bloom chose to instead skillfully master a powerful secondary part and with great humility. Nice.Kudos, Orlando. Theatre geeks around the world are smiling. Myself included. I am saddened that I'm a continent away and cannot see it. Balls.I did recently see Elizabethtown. Yes, yes, I'm a naughty fan for not seeing it in theatres, I know. It is unfortunate that this movie tanked at the box office and with critics. But I know why. It's a charming film filled with realistic situations. It was billed as a full-budget-major-motion-picture type of movie --- but it has WAY too much of an Indie feel for such a billing. I think people were....confused. And maybe even disappointed in the way the series of events unfolded, especially the romance. Like I said...realistic. Not "Hollywood". It still ended rather "Hollywood". But maybe not enough. I enjoyed it. And even got a few chuckles out of it. Its director, Cameron Crowe, who's best known for other quirky, culty films like Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Say Anything (both of which I own!) keeps with his style. But like I said ---- too Indie. Too quirky. Audiences saw "Orlando Bloom" and wanted something....uh, different. I think.

Sorry I've been away so long, but grown-up life is a little hectic. I'd like to welcome any and all new members.I saw Troy last week, and...I am compelled to say....that I'm sick of seeing Orlando play the hopeless romantic and/or the warrior guy who rides a horse wielding a bow and/or sword. It's getting old...fast! And like many folk, I couldn't help but see Legolas when he was fondling his bow...I'm sorry, shooting his bow and arrow. Yeah. Just could NOT suspend my disbelief and see Prince Paris - I saw Legolas. And then all other times, I saw Will Turner...perhaps more dark and brooding, but still.... Is he still gorgeous? Of course. Not as beefcake as Eric Bana though...mmmm, Eric Bana...but fun to look at none-the-less. But I am convinced that he has talent and am anxious to see something more...challenging? Maybe I need to see The Calcium Kid and Ned Kelly to get a better perspective.

Hi, well this community is certainly refreshing. At first I thought I was finally seeing a backlash to all the love...but instead, I found something better.I am a fangirl at the core, but Im very adept at separating that aspect of myself when I watch him on screen. Being an aspiring actor myself, when I see movies, I see them to admire the art. Although I do admire the natural aesthetics of the cast, Id like to think that I can rise above my hormones to actually see what is before me.So Im joining.Has anyone ever heard of Fan Forum? So...regarding "Haven", Orlando's newest endeavor. Granted, my only experience with producers is in theatre, but I'm sure it's still pretty close.The producer is the top dog! Here's the chain of command:Producer(s)Director(s)Production Manager(s)Stage Manager(s)The producer is the person you never see, but makes all the decisions. Even if the director wants it, and the producer says 'no' - it ain't gonna happen! The producer also shoulders a huge portion of the financial burden of putting on a show/movie. They're responsible for hiring the appropriate people for the appropriate job and delegating certain duties to those persons. They decide how much to spend and where to spend it. Final set designs, program layouts, etc...all get approval from the producer. I mean, they are paying for it, after all. They are God! Anyone else have experience with producers? Is my portrayal accurate?So Orlando's gonna be a producer... Can't help but think that he is so inexperienced in Hollywood, not to mention that he's just started getting into acting. I don't know what possessed him to take on such an enormous responsibility. And to star in the same movie!! Shit, Mel Gibson didn't start producing/directing/acting until the late 90's. This is Orlando's...what...third year in Hollywood? Not saying he can't do it - just - damn! It's a ton of work. Talk about ambition!! So Kudos for Orlando! Having said that, as inspired by a post made to juliebean, I think he'll win an Oscar before he's 30. Yup. Just a gut feeling. Who wants to put money on it?

I was a total girl last night.I stayed up late to see Orlando on the GQ awards on channel 51 (TNN?). At first, I said - "nah, he'll only be on for a millisecond..." but my girliness got the best of me. Can't say it was worth it; he was only on for a millisecond. But he's so articulate! And that accent! And that smile! Okay, I'll stop...Was I the only one who had a girl attack last night? Probably.

So, like I said, Ned Kelly opened in the UK on September 26th. I've been trying to find some reviews, but they're difficult to find. "A wannabe Western epic that never quite fills the widescreen, but is quite lovely around the fringes."
