The purpose of this article was to: (1) categorize behavior management literature primarily published in Pediatric Dentistry and the Journal of Dentistry for Children over the past 30 years to determine the quantity of survey, opinion, and clinical publication types; and (2) focus on the specific techniques of behavior management, sanctioned by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, to determine the extent of evidence-based support for the techniques. A search of articles focusing on behavior management, but excluding sedation, was conducted of Pediatric Dentistry and the Journal of Dentistry for Children from 1970 to the present time. The publications were reviewed, data on authors, titles, and publication dates entered into a spreadsheet, and the publications divided into different types for analysis. One hundred sixty-eight articles were identified and used for analysis. The number of publications involving clinical studies was less than a third (30%) of the total number of articles identified, 38% were opinion papers, and 32% were surveys or descriptions of behavior management in the dental setting. The number of clinical studies peaked in the mid 1980s, and surveys have increased over the past decade. The evidence-based data to support a clinical science of the effectiveness of behavior management techniques in pediatric dentistry is limited and needs further development.

These pages make use of a product, webMathematica, that enables the authors to create interactive web pages which allow students and faculty to compute and visualize results directly from a web browser. webMathematica calls on a server running a Mathematica kernel to produce results in a Mathematica session and display them on a web page.

It explores the proposition that the networking of NFE providers is a mechanism by which a fragmented community might be repositioned socially and economically. NFE is seen as a bridge for extending and deepening existing social capital. The learning activities offered by the knowledge service providers are compared with the lifelong learning outcomes expected through NFE. The analysis positions these NFE providers in terms of their relative strengths and weakness, and indicates how these impacts on their projected sustainability. Community learning through non-formal education via the networking of knowledge providers is shown to involve serious tensions.

A genetic influence on odor identification was suggested for males, but not for females, consistent with previous twin research on physical measures. In addition, females scored significantly higher on the UPSIT than males. A curvilinear age trend for odor identification was detected for males, but not for females. In contrast, neither genetic, age, nor gender effects were suggested for PEA sensitivity. Performance on the olfactory tests was unrelated to scores on standard measures of intelligence.

The field of family sciences would encourage best practices if there was a systematic dialogue and uniformity among techniques. However, specific experiences also need to be tailored to meet the needs of students. Thus, it is not surprising that we see a plethora of

Two-hundred and seventy-nine bereaved twins completed the Grief Experience Inventory (GEI) as part of an ongoing study of twin loss. Twins' scores on all GE1 scales significantly exceeded those of 102 non-twin individuals who experienced relatively recent bereavement. Organizing this early bereavement group by relationship to the deceased, scores of a subset of recently bereaved twins exceeded those of bereaved children and spouses, and were slightly higher than those of bereaved parents. However, the majority of twins' scores were significantly higher than those of parents in a different group, who had lost sons during military service. GE1 scale scores of surviving monozygotic (MZ) twins generally exceeded those of surviving dizygotic (DZ) twins, with differences reached significance on five of nine scales. The implications of genetic and social relatedness between survivor and deceased are examined with respect to theoretical and applied aspects of bereavement research and counseling.

A sample of 322 students from three universities completed selfreport questionnaires measuring dysfunctional family-of-origin rules, current dating behaviors, dating anxiety, relationship satisfaction and commitment. The results indicated that dysfunctional family-of-origin rules were positively related to dating anxiety, and negatively related to advancement in dating stages, relationship satisfaction, and commitment in the dating relationships of young adults. There also was a tendency for young adults from families with dysfunctional rules to date later and less frequently than young adults from families with more functional rules, although they dated about the same number of partners. Implications for future research and clinical interventions are discussed.

Data from 102 married couples were used. Bivariate and multi-variate analyses were used to examine hypotheses. For both husbands and wives, overall stress, emotional health, number of marriage and family problems, and family life satisfaction were significantly related to dyadic adjustment in bivariate correlations. For wives, physical health was also significantly related to dyadic adjustment in bivariate correlations, whereas for husbands, age at current marriage was significantly related to dyadic adjustment in bivariate correlations. Analyses were conducted in a three-step hierarchical procedure, examining background variables, then individual variables, and last family variables. Age at marriage (for husbands), emotional health (for wives), and number of marriage and family problems as well as family life satisfaction (for both husbands and wives) were related to dyadic adjustment in the multivariate context. Implications are discussed for premarital counselors and marriage and family therapists.

The finite basis set calculations are carried out using a distributed basis set of Gaussian functions the exponents and positions of which were determined by invoking the variational principle for the corresponding non-relativistic problem. Using only 27 s-type functions for the large component and a small component basis set constructed according to the kinetic balance prescription a sub-[mu]Hartree level of accuracy is achieved in the finite basis set solutions when compared with the finite difference study reported by Sundholm et al. Some advantages of the distributed basis set approach in relativistic electronic structure studies are discussed.

Family/parental stress is a function of several factors, notably the magnitude of stressors, the resources available, and the appraisals given by parents individually and conjointly to the situation. An implication from current literature is that resources and appraisals are important determinates of the extent of family, and thus parental, stress experienced. Resource shortfalls influence the extent and intensity of resources available to families and thus hinder development of effective stress management strategies or appropriate parental responses to youth. Providing culturally relevant resources in a timely and efficient manner is a mechanism to help parents feel supported and less pressured by stress and distress. This paper presents the MRM (Magnitude, Resources, Meaning) family stress model and the CRSRP (Culturally Relevant and Specific Resource Provision) intervention model to guide the creation of appropriate interventions to prevent and/or reduce parental stress. An intervention discussed is Family Life Education, an intervention that might be novel for some readers.
