ontd_lotr: in a world filled with mirth and magic you lose time in yourself (original) (raw)

I know most folks these days don't use LJ much and since I'm still adventuring in Aoteareoa Middle-earth (and I have no idea what is going on in the lives of the other mods) this community has been pretty dead lately. But if it happens that you, YES YOU, reading this, have seen the Hobbit : an Unexpected Journey and would like to discuss, nitpick, post gifs, share your hobbity tumblr url etc - this is the post for you!
OBVIOUSLY IF YOU ENTER THERE WILL BE SPOILERS

Tried to post this earlier but my wifi got wonky. Feel free to discuss - what do you think of Radagast? What's the crystal table thingy? Bilbo seems pretty confident around Gollum, doesn't he?
Yup, there's going to be THREE Hobbit films. Not many facts known yet, except a planned SUMMER 2014 release for the third and it doesn't affect the release dates of the first two. It's not the famous "bridge movie" that was planned years ago, rather they're just stretching their TH + LOTR appendices + non canonical inventions stuff over three films instead of two. Of course they just wrapped the principal photography (although word on the ~street in Welly is that the Battle of Five Armies hasn't been filmed yet...) so it will be interesting to see how the production goes from here (anyone who hasn't watched the production diaries that PJ has posted, run over to YouTube, they. are. brilliant.) I just hope whatever changes this will mean for film 1 won't result in the kind of hasty editing we saw for the theatrical ROTK.
What are your thoughts ontd_lotr? What are our feelings?
(Did you know any member of this community can post? It doesn't have to be this quiet in here. ;))
So is everyone playing over at tumblr or just too lazy to post anything?
Christopher Tolkien recently gave a rare interview, from which we learn nothing new really, but it's still worth reading for an alternative view point to our life choices.

In movie news, Comic-con is happening as we speak so there's hopefully going to be cool new stuff for us to get excited about. I trust most of you have already seen the storybook images that were released?

Peter Jackson has updated his Facebook with a fourth video of progress on The Hobbit, this time detailing the 3D aspects of the production.
I have to admit, 3D is something I currently actively avoid if I can help it, but the brief glimpses we see of Mirkwood etc are making me think I'm gonna risk it, just purely to see how much effort they have put into everything. Plus John Howe and Alan Lee drawing the concept art in 3D... o_O is just wow. Can't wait to see the full effect when they release them.
Also - Surprise!Elijah included!

On 10th December 2001, nobody could anticipate how much of a cultural phenomenon Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring would begin.
Empire Magazine have kicked off the celebrations early by creating a list of "100 things you didn't know about The Lord Of The Rings". They also have a interview with the four hobbits, as well sneaky peak in Aragorn's Photo Diary.
( 100 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT LotRCollapse )

If you haven't seen this already, drop everything and watch it now! I thought the second one was wonderful with all the NZ prettiness but this one. Just. OMG.
I. Just. Can't. Even. There's Galadriel, singing dwarves, Christopher Lee and a Take That reference. This so fixes a terrible week.
