My heart goes out to his family, especially his wife; to lose husband and son together so suddenly must be the worst kind of pain.current mood: shocked (6 comments | comment on this) Sunday, September 2nd, 2007 6:07 pm - Totally hacked off november_girl It's bad enough that we have to get a set top box to get any kind of rally coverage whatsoever, but the way that ITV4 seem to be treating the WRC is appalling. Firstly they didn't show any coverage whatsoever of Rally Finland. Hmph it's only one of the best rallies in the season, no matter. Then they advertise on their web site that they will be showing Rally New Zealand at 6pm, so we turn on the TV just before 6pm to see the last 30 seconds of the coverage, which began at 4.55pm, it seems. I think over all rally in the US is at a pretty good level, despite very little media coverage. As far as the Xgames, I was worried about them having Rally as a covered sport, as much as we need publicity, we don't need to become a pop, trend sport, because most of those die out quickly. Wish that said, I think they did an okay, and I say that loosely, job of presenting rally to the general public. My main worrie are, that the general public thinks rally is like monster trucks and NASCAR, people just go out to jump and crush rally cars, they need to understand that some of the best rallys have no jumps at all, and these jumps that are encountered aren't purposely there, in most cases. Also I worry that, like the SCCA tried, rally orginizers will want head to head races to draw more crowds. Sorry, but I don't think most owners want to take there $30000 Group N car and trade paint. Now my last gripe, while I respect him imensely, and respect his driving skills, I don't think Travis Pastrana will be driving in the WRC any time soon. Reason being, is his typical American, go big or go home attitude. WRC teams shit can guys for destoying cars over a period of years, how many has Travis completely written off in the last 2 years? Just some thought, I think the whole rally community needs to tighten its shot group and figure out how to get more exposure without changeing the sport to suit the media and pop culture.
