PARENTAL PERCEPTION TOWARDS THE TEACHING OF SEXEDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN IJEBU-NORTHLOCAL... more PARENTAL PERCEPTION TOWARDS THE TEACHING OF SEXEDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN IJEBU-NORTHLOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OGUN STATE.CHAPTER ONEINTRODUCTION1.1 Background to the StudyIn spite of the good intentions of the Nigerian Government andstakeholders in introducing sex education into the school curriculum as wellas the likely risks that adolescents in Nigeria are confronted with in the areaof reproductive health, opinions are still divided over the propriety orotherwise of the inclusion of sex education in the school curriculum.Durojaiye (2002) and Essen (2004) were of the opinion that the introductionof sex education in the school curriculum is as a result of parents’ refusal togive their adolescents the sexual information they require to help themfunction well in the society. Parents on their part believe that adolescents’moral decadence is an after effect of what they learn from school
