This book offers a critical multidisciplinary analysis of case studies of social work interventions from a psychosocial and relationship-based perspective. Providing a description of each case, it draws on psychodynamic theory, object relations theory, attachment theory, relational psychoanalysis, and sociological theories and research to present a critical interdisciplinary analysis of the dynamics and the outcomes of each case. This offers the reader a holistic and practical psychosocial and relationship-based perspective in thinking about and analysing each case, and offers a host of learning that is immediately relevant to the readers' own practice. This book serves as a contemporary, integrated, and highly valuable reference and resource for social work students and practitioners as well as students and practitioners from allied professions, such as health, occupational therapists, nursing, psychotherapy and counselling, who may be interested in a psychosocial and relationship-based understanding of their own cases and interaction with their own clients/user of services.

What divides winning and losing firms is their capacity for resilience. This is especially important when facing economic challenges.
Resilient organizations use their agility and flexibility – their capacity to change course cheaply and at short notice – to move beyond survival and to prosper in complex and uncertain environments. Resilient organizations recognize the positive potential in surprise and change and, by overcoming challenges and bouncing back quicker and better than their competitors, increase their market lead.

In specific, drawing on sociological, psychological and pedagogic theories, this article offers a conceptualisation of Twitter and Twitter chats as a continuous multilogue within communities of practice and/or communities of interest (CoP and CoI).
This article examines the collapsing and increasingly overlapping boundaries of formal and informal education and locates Twitter chats within this overlapping area. Furthermore, conceptualising Twitter interactions as multilogue conversations, the article offers an object relational conception of knowledge, knowledge generation, and learning and a dynamic interpretation of Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and the notion of More Knowledgeable Other (MKO) to offer a theorisation and pedagogic perspective in relation to Twitter and Twitter chats.
The article concludes by considering some of the implications of such a theorisation for individual and professional identity, learning and pedagogy.

In particular the past few years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of television programmes dealing with cosmetic surgery and the body. Most of these programmes present cosmetic surgery as the magic wand of individual transformation and self-realisation. Therefore, given the rapidly changing systems of communication and the groundbreaking developments in medical and biosciences, this research examines the presentations, representations and the relations between body, cosmetic surgery, and hyper-reality, and concludes that cosmetic surgery is in fact the latest consumption craze in our post-modern supermarket of styles, and that cosmetic surgery treats the body as an infinitely malleable signifier within the social semiotic space.
To this end, this research conducts a semiotic and textual analysis of five television series on cosmetic surgery which were aired on UK television.

This paper describes the process and some of the components of the module redesign. Although the eventual redesign allowed for incorporation of social media both as a learning strategy and for assessment purposes, this paper is focused on use/application of social media in academic curriculum as a learning strategy. Grounding the new module in constructivist pedagogy, and an enquiry-based action learning model, the redesign leveraged the use of social media to expand the interrelational dimensions of students’ learning. This increased the students’ engagement and the depth and breadth of their learning, while enhancing their appreciation for e-professionalism and personal learning networks.

Social Media can facilitate potential partnerships in an engaging way to bring people together, to build common research outcomes and then generate evidence of impact.
The major aim of this event is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas related to use Social Media for research development purposes. It also aims to raise awareness in terms of the latest development in social technologies, to address the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of Social Media by researchers and subject its use to critical scrutiny.

Therefore, this conference enables social work and social care practitioners to gain an understanding of the forthcoming changes and familiarise themselves with the new practice landscape.

This conference aims to stimulate critical thinking on issues such as: what kind of knowledge is considered as ‘evidence’; whose evidence (knowledge) is seen as policy relevant; what is the role of evidence in advocacy; how do policy makers and the producers of evidence communicate?
Evidence based policy has emerged as an important theme in a workpackage on ‘Stakeholder analysis’. The workpackage is part of a large European research study on Addictions and Lifestyles in Contemporary Europe (Alice Rap – see: www.alicerap.eu, funded by the European Commission). The conference will include discussion of the broader issues as well as case studies more specific to the field of substance use/ addiction and stakeholder activity. It is hoped that the conference papers will present ‘challenging perspectives’.
