In proposing to host a series of community discussions on migration and immigration, Xavier University’s overarching goal is to facilitate an inclusive and ongoing dialogue on im/migrant experiences, both past and present. We hope that discussions and a web site hosting a range of primary sources related to different immigration and migration experiences will allow Cincinnatians to reflect on how they and their ancestors came here and to explore how their experiences intersect with others

E l objetivo de este estudio es analizar y describir las líneas de investigación en el área de la... more E l objetivo de este estudio es analizar y describir las líneas de investigación en el área de las ciencias sociales acerca de la ciudad que han sido objeto de interés en los libros y artículos de revista publicados en el Reino Unido, y en las tesis leídas en universdades británicas, desde el año 1985 en adelante. METODOLOGIA Nos hemos limitado, por razones de tiempo, a los países hispanos de América Latina y del Caribe, y a Brasil. Hemos rechazado los numerosos capítulos publicados en compilaciones y obras colectivas y ponencias presentadas a congresos. Nos hemos ceñido estrictamente al estudio de las grandes ciudades del período moderno, omitiendo así investigaciones sobre la ciudad precolombina y sobre las ciudades pequeñas (denominadas 'towns' en inglés). Sin embargo, hemos incluído en nuestra estrategia de búsqueda el término 'town', ya que los encabezamientos de temas tales como 'Cities and towns' y 'Town and city planning' se aplican tanto a las ciudades como a los 'towns'. An XPS and SEM study of the surface of a discharged lithium anode and of an unconnected lithium s... more An XPS and SEM study of the surface of a discharged lithium anode and of an unconnected lithium sheet stored in a discharged cell of the Li/LiAsF6/AN/S02 battery system is reported. The stored lithium sheet is topographically homogeneous, while the discharged anode is very inhomogeneous indicating considerable chemical variation across the surface. The major result is that sulfur compounds, of which there are several, represent but a minor portion of the film constituents at the surface, It has been supposed that, since the passivation of lithium against violent reaction with acetonitrile is caused by the addition of SO2, the primary cell discharge product, L12S2O4, was the primary constituent of the passivating layer. This can be so only if the film on lithium is a multilayer film, with the critical passivating layer being covered by filmforming reaction products. The outer portion of the film is composed of reaction products of lithium with each and every one of the electrolyte ingredients. For the Li, 0, F, C and As in this film, discharge results in important chemical state transformations. In contrast, the S chemical states change relatively little, which is perhaps indicative of a stabilizing role played by the sulfur compounds.

This session will address the transition to Ada 9X from a variety of perspectives including acade... more This session will address the transition to Ada 9X from a variety of perspectives including academia, research and development, system development, and tool conversion, Ada 9X has been designed with upward compatibility for negative minimum impact to the existing Ada infrastructure as a primary goal. Currently the number of incompatibilities between Ada 83 and Ada 9X are fewer than for any other language upgrade. Furthermore, the time-to-transition as specified by the Ada compiler validation test suite releases is designed to amortize the conversion over a multi-year period to allow vendors to focus attention on user requirements and optimization. Ada 9X offers some very nice language enhancements in the areas of programming inthe-large, real-time systems, and object oriented programming that make it an attractive choice for software system development during the next decade.

Bacterial symbionts that resembled mollicutes were discovered in the marine bryozoan Watersipora ... more Bacterial symbionts that resembled mollicutes were discovered in the marine bryozoan Watersipora arcuata in the 1980s. In this study, we used PCR and sequencing of 16S rRNA genes, specific fluorescence in situ hybridization, and phylogenetic analysis to determine that the bacterial symbionts of “ W. subtorquata ” and “ W. arcuata ” from several locations along the California coast are actually closely related α- Proteobacteria , not mollicutes. We propose the names “Candidatus Endowatersipora palomitas” and “ Candidatus Endowatersipora rubus” for the symbionts of “ W. subtorquata ” and “ W. arcuata ,” respectively.
