New online learning methods will be taught for supporting the teaching of Linked Data. Additionally, the lessons learned and the best practices derived from designing and delivering a Linked Data curriculum by the EUCLID project will be discussed. 2. Ways in which Linked Data principles and technologies can be used to support online learning and create innovative educational services will be explained, based on the experience developed in the development of existing Linked Data applications for online learning. We will in particular rely on the data catalogue, use cases and applications considered by the LinkedUp project.

In this paper, we examine the use of ontologies for modelling and supporting learner activities within a PLE or CLE that draws upon sources whose ontologies may vary a lot. In particular, we propose an architecture for layering and integration of learning ontologies modelling various aspects of the learning process and facilitating the production of recommendations to learners.

Research paper thumbnail of Ontology for Preservation of Interactive Multimedia Performances

Metadata and Semantics, 2009

A proper preservation does not only require keeping all the necessary components available at the time of reconstruction but also the knowledge about these components are assembled together for in performance. In digital preservation, metadata has been seen as a mean of enabling semantic processing, cataloguing and querying on preserved digital objects. However, as a record based approach, metadata is weak at describing interrelationships between digital objects in digital archives, which is one of the key requirements for preservation of interactive multimedia performances. In this paper, a domain ontology for describing the complex relationships amongst different components of a performance to support its preservation process is introduced.

Preservation requires keeping not only all the necessary components for the production of a performance but also the knowledge about these components so that the original production process can be repeated at any given time. Ontologies provide the means for semantic processing, cataloguing and querying on preserved digital objects. In this paper, a framework for digital preservation of IMPs is introduced. The framework is based on the use of ontologies for describing the complex relationships among different components of a performance to support its preservation.

However, as the amount of available data continues to increase, so does the demand for professionals who have the necessary skills to manage and manipulate this data. This paper presents the European Data Science Academy (EDSA), an initiative for bridging the data science skills gap across Europe and training a new generation of world-leading data scientists. The EDSA project has established a rigorous process and a set of best practices for the production and delivery of curricula for data science. Additionally, the project's efforts are dedicated to linking the demand for data science skills with the supply of learning resources that offer these skills. In order to achieve this, EDSA is offering interactive tools for finding learning resources and building personalised learning pathways towards acquiring the skills that are currently in demand.

However, as the amount of produced data continues to increase, so does the demand for practitioners who have the necessary skills to manage and manipulate this data. The European Data Science Academy (EDSA) is looking to bridge the data science skills gap by developing multimodal open courseware tailored to the real needs of data practitioners. The EDSA courseware is implemented as a combination of living learning materials and activities (eBook, online courses, webinars, face-to-face training), produced via a rigorous process and validated by the data science community through continuous feedback.

Remote labs and online experimentation build on top of numerous emerging technologies for supporting remote experiments and promoting the immersion of the learner in online environments recreating the real experience. This paper presents a methodology for the design, delivery and evaluation of learning resources for remote experimentation. This methodology has been developed in the context of the European project FORGE, which promotes online learning using Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE) facilities. FORGE is a step towards turning FIRE into a pan-European educational platform for Future Internet. This will benefit learners and educators by giving them both access to world-class facilities in order to carry out experiments on e.g. new internet protocols. In turn, this supports constructivist and self-regulated learning approaches, through the use of interactive learning resources, such as eBooks.

The shift from just being controlled by a teacher towards taking control by oneself in a selfregulated learning (SRL) way can be basically initialised by providing learning environments that can be personalised and individually adapted or created instead of using 'one size fits all' learning environments. A lot of research and development on this subject has been done in the EU-Project ROLE (role-project.eu). In this context extensive experiments have been conducted with widget-based PLEs. Scenarios have been created, implemented, tested and evaluated in real world settings. The contribution of this paper is the presentation of a) three widget-based PLE scenarios, b) evaluation results on comparing the value of the presented PLE scenarios and c) evaluation results on comparing students and teachers point of views against the presented PLE scenarios including SRL aspects.

The tool uses only questionasking, rather than the typical question/answer paradigm found in threaded discussions, as a mechanism for supporting awareness and reflection on metacognitive activity, and for supporting selfregulated learning. The weblike artefact produced by learner contributions is intended to support learners in mapping a given domain, identifying points of convergence and recognizing gaps in the knowledge representation. In this paper, the authors present the model of the tool, a usecase scenario and a discussion of the opportunities and limitations related to this approach.

FORGE supports experimentally driven research in an eLearning environment by complementing traditional classroom and online courses with interactive remote laboratory experiments. The project has achieved its objectives by defining and implementing a framework called FORGEBox. This framework offers the methodology, environment, tools and resources to support the creation of HTML-based online educational material capable accessing virtualized and physical FIRE testbed infrastructure easily. FORGEBox also captures valuable quantitative and qualitative learning analytic information using questionnaires and Learning Analytics that can help optimise and support student learning. To date, FORGE has produced courses covering a wide range of networking and communication domains. These are freely available from FORGEBox.eu and have resulted in over 24,000 experiments undertaken by more than 1,800 students across 521 522 FORGE: An eLearning Framework for Remote Laboratory Experimentation 10 countries worldwide. This work has shown that the use of remote highperformance testbed facilities for hands-on remote experimentation can have a valuable impact on the learning experience for both educators and learners. Additionally, certain challenges in developing FIRE-based courseware have been identified, which has led to a set of recommendations in order to support the use of FIRE facilities for teaching and learning purposes. 1 http://ict-forge.eu 2
