Remember Alice? (original) (raw)
Remember Alice? was farther underground than most of New York's 90s underground bands. They had more personnel changes in their real 10-year existence (over 40) than Spinal Tap did in their fictional 25-year existence (37). It’s hard to say whether they were one band, several bands, or a collection of musicians. Their style ranged from punk, Celtic punk, alternative, pop rock, to hard-to-classify. Yet, they recorded dozens of songs and played gigs as far away as Maine, Georgia, Kansas, and Quebec, and especially Fargo, North Dakota. Paolo “Paul Frast” Frassanito (vocals & guitar) & Karl Widerquist (bass & vocals) were the longest-term members but no one person played in all of their shows or recordings. Other members included Tom Williams (guitar), Helen Yee (fiddle), Scott MX Turner (formerly of the Service and Bad Manners) (guitar & vocals), Hiroshi Kono (guitar), Jeremy Fulton, & Yusef Adel (later to become U-Cef) (drums), Holly McWhorter, Jordan Lindquist, Nick Bacon (later of the Pilfers & Nick and the Adversaries), George Javori (later pf Joan Baez’s band), Jordan Lindquist, Yevgeny Simkin, Dim Gurevich, Sariyah Idan, Debbie Steinberg, Andy Crossland, and I could go on. Many veterans continue to make music—sometimes together. Scott & Nick formed Team Doomsday 2020. Karl & Scott have been working on some tracks. Karl, Tom, Helen, & Paolo are working on a new song—which might they might release. Or might not. This is Remember Alice?
