After outlining the characteristics of Marian piety in the late Middle Ages, the author deals with a new understanding of Marian devotion proposed by the Wittenberg Reformer. To this end, he analyzes Luther's statements in the Commentary on the Magnificat, the Commentary on Ave Maria and in his sermons. The author then presents modifications to the liturgical year proposed by the Reformer, along with the Marian feasts he has preserved-the Annunciation, Visitation and Purification-at the same time showing their theological justification proposed by Luther. In the next step, the author deals with Martin Luther's view of other Marian feasts together with the place he gives to the Virgin Mary in the Vespers and in the Creed. In the final conclusion, the author states that in Luther's concept, the Virgin Mary is present throughout the church year, and the Reformer opposed not the Virgin Mary herself, but abuses in her worship, subordinating it to the primacy of Christ at the same time.

In the introductory section, the author defends the validity of examining this topic, due to the reform of criminal law carried out by Pope Francis with the apostolic constitution Pascite gregem Dei of 23rd May 2021. This reform expands the catalogue of crimes which are punishable with the lifelong expiatory penalty dimissio de statu clericali. The author also provides an understanding of the concept of crime in canon law, and then, in the main part of the study, he presents and discusses individual crimes in the order corresponding to their arrangement in the revised Book VI of the Code of Canon Law devoted to penal sanctions in the Church.

The investigation aims to establish a precise set of Matthean texts belonging to this literary genre. Following a presentation of a variety of solutions (R. Schnackenburg, J. Gnilka, E. Schweizer, D.A. Hagner, R.H. Gundry, J. Nolland, A. Paciorek, U. Luz, R.T. France, W.D. Davies and D.C. Allison, C.S. Keener, G.R. Osborne, C.A. Evans, S. Grasso, W. Egger, B. Gerhardsson, L. Novakovic), literary considerations are examined against the background of various scholarly propositions, giving precise criteria to denote a given gospel text as a summary. On this basis, eight Matthean texts are proposed as summaries – (1) 4:23–25, (2) 8:16–17, (3) 9:35–36, (4) 12:15–21, (5) 14:13–14, (6) 14:34–36, (7) 15:29–31, and (8) 19:1–2 – while showing their thematic interpenetration and mutual dependence.

These are: (1) Ps 91:1–12 in Matt 4:6; (2) Ps 78:2 in Matt 13:35; (3) Ps 8:3 in Matt 21:16; (4) Ps 118:22–23 in Matt 21:42; and (5) Ps 110:1 in Matt 22:44. Piotr Herok argues that the investigated texts are related to each other not only by the presence of the introductory formulas, making clear that a given citation comes from Scripture, but also through mutual thematic convergence, concerning in various degrees king David, the temple, and the theme of Jesus’ identity. Thanks to the new literary context, in which the quotations are embedded, Matthew reinterprets them significantly while giving them a new dimension clearly distinguishing them from the rest of the psalm quotations found in his work. This aims at presenting Jesus as not only the Son of David, but first of all the Son of God.
