Olive cultivation in the mediterranean basin has been strongly modernized in the last 25 years. Irrigation and plant protection led to intensive orchards and significant ecological footprint (on greenhouse gases for example), whereas olive products are still considered as natural ones by consumers.
This article presents some improvements and french research currently carried out to improve olive cultivation, and reduce its environmental impact.
