EUs økologiregler for hold og opdræt af svin er fastlagt i henholdsvis rådsforordning RFO 834/2007 og Kommissionsforordning 889/2009.
Rådsforordningen fastlægger i artikel 12, at alle økologiske dyr skal have adgang til udendørsarealer.
Det tillades, at grise alene har adgang til løbegård og ikke går på græsarealer.
