The findings revealed that the academic libraries are less used because of the availability of alternative information systems (such as the Internet, reading-rooms in residence halls and apartments), poor library environment, inadequate user education programs, and absence of formal user-librarian collaboration programs. It is recommended that the internal and external environment of the libraries be improved, that user education programs be extended to 2 semesters, and that user-librarian collaborations be institutionalised.

Public policy was viewed as one of the necessary tool of governance, provided its formulation, implementation and evaluation are carefully been handled by those at the helms of affairs. It was however discovered that public policy making in Nigeria is hindered by a lot of factors which include lack of feedback mechanism to measure effectiveness of such policies. Government instability as well as non acceptance of expert opinion among others was also discovered to militate against effective policy making in the country. Recommendations were thereafter offered to the political actors on how to ensure smooth governance in the 21st century.

Hence, the paper viewed Competitive Intelligence as a modern means of managing an outfit or organizations such as libraries towards achieving its set goals by way of having an edge over other competitors, To achieve this, certain suggestions that includes provision of users education, making library resources accessible, provision of E-Journals, E-books, internet services and recruitment of qualified personnel among others were suggested to enable our libraries record and sustain users maximum level of patronage of their services.

The university started academic activities during the 2010/2011 session with four departments and ten academic programmes. Questionnaires were used to gather data from the entire student population, 426 students. 332 undergraduates (78%) completed and returned copies of the questionnaire. Analysis of the returned questionnaires revealed that the respondents make use of the library for few days per week and only for academic purposes. They consult reference sources and subject textbooks which they wanted in both print and electronic formats while their previous knowledge of school library use and library instruction programmes positively influenced the undergraduates' use of library. The study in conclusion recommended involvement of the undergraduates in collection development activities of the libr...

This reliance has made Law Libraries indispensable to the provision of effective and efficient legal services and studies. An efficient and responsive law library services is achievable through well organized collections of legal information sources This discourse focus on Classification Schemes and their respective suitability for organizing Law Collections in Nigerian Law Faculties. Three schemes, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), Library of Congress (LC) and Elizabeth Moys (Moys) were examined and appraised in relation to law collections. This discourse concludes by offering the benefits of Classification to Law Collections.

Questionnaire was used to elicit information from 189 Academic Librarians, out of which 153 (81%) copies of the questionnaire were duly completed and returned. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentage and Anova Analysis tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that the work environment of librarians in terms of physical facilities, open communication, motivation etc are fairly favourable while personnel emolument was considered not to be favourable at all. This inadequacy is reflected in the job performance of the librarians as their performance only seems to be fair. The study also established that there is significant correlation between work environment and job performance of the librarians. To alleviate the incidence of poor work environment and under performance in libraries, the study recommended improvement in the levels of physical facilities, personnel emolument, open communication as wells as adequate funding from government, donor agencies and philanthropists.

Total enumerative survey method was adopted to carry out the study with the aid of questionnier. The study revealed that women academic Librarians exhibit high level of self-efficacy and that there was a low level of work family conflict among the respondents, which suggest a moderate or high level control over work responsibilities among the participants. It was further revealed that there was a significant relationship between self-efficacy and work-family conflict while demographic variable (relationship status, age and work place) did not predict their work-family conflict. Recommendations were therefore offered to ensure smooth task operation among the respondents, their male counterparts and members of the faculty in general.

The purpose of this study is to provide a detailed review of the success story of RECON adoption and implementation at Kenneth Dike Library (a pioneering University in Africa and library automation in Nigeria) in order to resolve issues and problems slowing down RECON adoption in the developing world. The survey method was used to collect data. A face-to-face interview of some library staff knowledgeable about the RECON process (including the system librarian, cataloguers and those involved in the retrospective conversion of card catalogue in Kenneth Dike library) was used. Information about users' experience was obtained through a questionnaire survey of registered patrons of the library, especially those directly involved in the use of the new OPAC system. The sole method of data analysis is the use of simple frequency analysis and percentages. This study will help to eliminate the erroneous believes about what library automation/RECON entails, thereby, facilitating adoption rates in those parts of the world that are still IT challenged. With increased adoption rate, there will be easy retrieval of information, improved library networking, and uniformity, integration of new and varied operations and services as well as elimination of repetitive boring library activities, and backlog of unprocessed materials in libraries. The study found out that Kenneth Dike Library made use of shared RECON and data input manually. The study also revealed that the RECON process took reasonable amount of time, involved well skilled manpower and cost moderately. The study further diagnosed some constraints inhibiting the library's RECON. In spite of the numerous inhibiting factors such as human, economic, cultural and social barriers. The library's OPAC had been successfully opened to users.

A review of literature was done on information and communication technologies (ICTs) and its importance in education. A description of Internet and its actual use by lecturers as well as students were also reviewed. Data was obtained from 200 undergraduate students of the institution with the use of a questionnaire. Information collected showed that majority of the cyber cafe around the university environment were privately owned and despite this, students accessed the Internet from their pocket money. It also revealed that majority of the respondents were Internet literate with 32.50% of the respondents browsing the Internet daily; 37.50% weekly, 13.00% fortnightly and 17.00% monthly. It further revealed that the most used Internet facilities are the e-mails, webpages, search engines and chatting facilities for communication (with friends, families, lovers, colleagues and lecturers), academic activities (doing assignment, research and preparation for examination) and for sourcing of information and knowledge. The benefits of Internet use and the various problems encountered from its use were also revealed. Suggestions and recommendations were proffered based on the findings of the study.
