looking for a book this has been driving me crazy for a while now. There was a book I read as a kid in the late 80s Im gonna do my best to describe it to you.It was about this inspector guy (I think he was an otter) and his niece and nephew (or kids, I cant remember)it was basically a series of books that labeled everything on the pages. the one I read was about a sunken treasure. the two pages I remember most was one in like a bait and tackle shop. On this page it had things labeled like a fishing net, compass, fishing poles etc. on another they were sailing through rough seas and there were alot of whales, like a narwhal, blue whale, flying fish, etc.. again everything was identified with a word right next to it.anyway I hope thats clear enough, I might try to see if my grandfather might still have it but I doubt it, hopefully someone knows what Im talking about, I cant find anything on it on google. Greetings.I just joined, and I joined in hopes that some of you may be able to help me or at least direct me to someone/where/thing that can.I am in great need of finding an old old children's story series called, "Jaggers and Lupin in Candleland" or something to that effect. I am only 24 years old and this is a pursuit of something back in the 50s or there about. This was a series about an elf and a cat I believe and it was short stories released via a tea company as a promotional device. I wish could offer more, so I am hoping that perhaps there are older members here who may know that which I refer to, or people here with better resources than I.Google has failed me and I know not where else to turn. Any paraphernalia that I could obtain in this matter would be a treasure more dear than any riches for it is a gift for someone I care for.Thank you for any help any of you may be in advance. Wick :: a Little Bit of Earth Lovely comm here =) My contribution to you all is a Secret Garden website because I decided there are too few around. I simply adore the story, and the 1993 film adaption. The characters are rich and unforgettable - how Susan Moody got away with writing that terrible sequel is beyond me! Talk about wrecking precious childhood memories. And it actually says on the cover something along the lines of 'If you loved Mary, Dickon and Colin you should read this' O_o I haven't actually read it myself so I shouldn't really judge but I know more or less what happens to the characters and the reviews I have read are awful.Anyway, if you have any suggestions for the site, feel free to rant away ;)http://www.little-bit-of-earth.cjb.net (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

TREASURE HUNT BOOKThere is a specific book I read in the first grade (I'm 17 yrs. old) and LOVED...and want to identify:It's about a kid (a boy) who goes on a treasure hunt (it's actually his birthday) and finds clues along the way...I remember pics of a water hose...and one clue was words that were backwards. In the end I think he has a note with "Happy Birthday" or a party. The book was probably from like the 60s or 70s ? There was a yellow cover. CAN ANYONE HELP IDENTIFY IT. Sylvia Long I have always stopped myself from posting because it just seems like such a plug for a product, but I'm going to post this time because I think it's truly worth it. For any of you Sylvia Long fan's, and maybe even some fans-to-be, she has a darling new book coming out this spring called Waddle Waddle Quack Quack Quack- It's really cute. How do I know? Well, because she's my mother-in-law (thus the hesitation to post) But if any of you have read her Hush Little Baby, where she changes the words so that it's a sweet song about showing the child the natural world rather than worldy goods, you know she doesn't need any of my plugging. I think my favorite book of hers is her Mother Goose because it's just so FUN! There's an image carried over from wach page onto the next, so it becomes a game to spot what she carried over. A close second is Snug as a bug, but probably mostly because we decorated and painted our nursery with scenes out of it. Newbie Hello all, joined a few days ago. I've just finished The Secret Garden for the umpteenth time and started on The Wind in the Willows. I have two ancient copies that have been read and loved and dreamed over almost to destruction.
