I know this community isn't terribly active, but for those of you on Dreamwidth, I have created a sister community on that site. This journal on LJ isn't going anywhere, and don't worry, I'm not importing the LJ entries onto DW. You're welcome to participate in either or both journals.

Hello! Stumbled upon this (slightly fossiled, I must say :>>) community - searched for something that would be analogue of art_nouveau community - blog with scans of best dinosaur-related pictures (like Burian or Schultz), still in search but idea of drawing dinosaurs intrigued me, - when I was 5 to 10 years old I drew them quite frequently, it was my favourite subject. Now I sketch starships and robots most (and run community related to sci-fi sketching, but it also quite err... moving like bronthosaurus), and this return was quite challenging. Haven`t used any references, so anatomy probably not perfect. Finished this pic few minutes ago.
Waiting for replies.

Don't worry, it's just me. Alizara, that is. Your friendly community co-mod. This is the name of my paleo-art journal, so I figured it made more sense to use it for this community.
Anyhow, I'd like to see this community liven up again. I don't have anything to post this instant(lazy, lazy!), but I'm thinking that maybe we should do an art exchange or some sort of activity for the holidays.
So, I'm throwing out this post, and asking for you guys' input and ideas. Let's breathe some life back into the place!

Artses! A little doodle from yours truly. It's more an artistic endeavor than a strictly scientific one, so please, please don't come to me with comments on how I didn't count the exact number of vertebrae from type specimen such and such, because I am already fully aware of that.

help I know this is supposed to be a community for sharing artwork, but I was wondering if anyone could help me out in identifying this little fella.
All I know about it is that it's a Green River specimen, it's on display at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and the UC Berkley Museum of Paleontology classifies it as a gruiform. Anything more specific or a image of the original fossil would be much appreciated!
Thanks!!

New Paleoart You may remember me from two whole entries ago, where I asked some annoying questions about Dilong and Sinornithosaurus. Well, I figured that you guys would like to see the finished product. I was going to try to get this into Prehistoric Times for the “Feathered Dinosaurs Revisited” section, but like an idiot I completely missed the deadline (small things like moving into my dorm and starting university kinda took up my time). I may, however, attempt to get it into the Dinosauricon instead. *looks hopefully at mightyodinn*
Anyway, ( hereCollapse ) it is.
The DeviantArt version is here.

So...I'm watching the old Disney film Fantasia again. Anyone who's watched it knows of the infamous Rite of Spring, or the 'dinosaur scene'. By today's standards, the science is basically defunct...but I spotted something interesting that I thought I'd ask about.
There's one scene sorta early in the dinosaur part (as opposed to the 'early earth' or 'early life' parts) where this one dinosaur tries to catch a feathered lizard that's spread-eagle between two tree branches.
Okay...what is this creature? o_O! I can't remember when Archaeopteryx was discovered, but I know the film was made in 1930 or so.
It had just never struck me before that they had put a /feathered/ reptile in that scene.

Introduction and Question Wow, a paleo art community. I'm amazed that I haven't come across this before! I've been browsing past entries, and you guys are really good.
So, I'm an aspiring paleo artist and dino-lover. I particularly enjoy drawing feathered dinos (dromaeosaurs mostly), as well as an extinct mammal or herbivorous dino here and there. I'm still fairly new to the whole paleo-art thing, and (reasonable) critique is always welcomed. ( HereCollapse ) are two examples of my work. (Image quality has been decreased for hosting and viewing purposes. See the good versions, and all my other stuff, at my DA gallery.)
Anyway, I really look forward to watching this community in the future. :)
I also have a paleo-art related question, which I shall cut for convenience. ( Read more...Collapse )
