How We're Saving Pangolins
Despite their relative obscurity, pangolins have the unfortunate distinction of being the most illegally trafficked wild mammal in the world. Although not all pangolins are classified as endangered by the IUCN Red List, all are at risk of extinction. Criminals hunt them for their scales, meat, and body parts to be sold on the illegal market, putting every pangolin species around the world at risk of vanishing. This threat is so severe that it’s hard to even estimate how many pangolins are left in the wild. The Pangolin Crisis Fund (PCF) was created to help pangolins while there is still time.
The PCF has one goal: Eliminate the demand, trafficking, and poaching crisis that puts all eight species of pangolins at risk of extinction.
Why are pangolins endangered?
Pangolins are hunted to supply a rampant illegal global trade in their scales, meat, and body parts. Because of demand—mostly in Asia, where pangolin meat is considered a delicacy and their scales are believed to have medicinal qualities—all eight species of pangolins are threatened with extinction. On top of that, rapid loss and deterioration of available habitat places added pressure on the dwindling numbers of remaining pangolins.
It’s not too late to save pangolins.
Created by the Wildlife Conservation Network, the Pangolin Crisis Fund invests in the best projects to stop the poaching of pangolins, stop the trade and demand for pangolin products, and raise the profile of this little-known animal. Learn about our latest investments in our 2024 Update.

How can I help endangered pangolins?
Supporters of the PCF play a critical role in stopping the trafficking, demand, and poaching of pangolins. 100% of every single donation goes straight to the field to support the most effective pangolin conservation projects. The PCF was founded by Wildlife Conservation Network, who proudly maintain 4 stars and a 100% rating from Charity Navigator, America’s leading independent charity evaluator.
