And in a funny way this is what sets Mr. Slimane himself apart: the allure of the clothes can't be completely explained. ''You know,'' he said, ''men are not supposed to be mysterious. That's what you say about women. But I think men can have a little of it, too.'' really? i think men should actually be more mysterious.

Mr. Slimane conceded that it's difficult to explain how a novice designer could be plucked from obscurity and put at one of the most venerable houses in Paris. But he suggested that the reason was somehow wrapped up in the mystique of Saint Laurent and, more, in the mercurial nature of its chairman, Pierre Berge. ''I don't think this house perhaps likes to hire known designers,'' said Mr. Slimane, who was working for the Paris press agent Jean-Jacques Picart when he was hired. Before that, he worked for the designer Jose Levy. ''It's something that makes Saint Laurent particular.''

not much is said about hedi's history. i remember him replying vaguely to a question about his relationship with pierre berge or jean-jacques picart and how it started. now i want to find out. it's funny, he's so famous, and we think we know about him but we don't!

his trademark sulky face. i like it.

yowza.

oh yeah and i think helena looks cute in a tie, she just needs to lay off on the shine, it's highlighting all the wrong contours of her face and ageing her.
