My 18 month son is very social and usually very active. The past couple days, though, even though he is still very social and usually active, he has become fixated on an object and will literally spend half and hour or an hour messing with it. Yesterday, he played with a chapter book, flipping the pages for an hour (hubby and I were also watching TV, so I'm sure that helped in keeping him still, although most of the time he just looked at the book.)

We went to the doctor today and he spent about 20 minutes playing with a bead toy while I talked to the doctor. She didn't seem it was strange, but I didn't mention it because I hadn't seen a pattern yet. He isn't easily distracted when he's doing this with other toys or objects.

Now he's sitting in his bedroom looking at books again (maybe I should be really happy!) He's been in there, silent, for over half an hour, happy to just look through books. And he's really happy, too, taking crayons or pencils out of a box and putting them back in, rinse and repeat. :)

He's also been refusing to sleep - especially any naps, and he used to take 2 - 2 hour naps a day - he loves to sleep, usually!

Should I be worried about this new behavior? Maybe I should just be happy that he's enjoying books. Has anyone else experienced this?
