India under British rule enacted Indian Forest Act, 1927 after initial forest legislation laid in... more India under British rule enacted Indian Forest Act, 1927 after initial forest legislation laid in 1878, which allowed Indian State to expand the commercial exploitation of Forest while putting curb on local use for subsistence. When India attained independence in 1947, it retained the Indian Forest Act, 1927 without introducing any alternations to it. Subsequently however, the Indian Forest Policy, Forest Conservation Act and Forest Rights Acts were formulated by Indian Government in 1952, 1980 and 2006. This changed the fundamental principle from denying customary rights of forest dwellers to allowing forest rights to cultivate and utilize forest produce for their own usage. Gujarat has enacted subsequent state laws in order to govern eastern tribal belt of the state. At the Census of India, 1881, the former princely state of Baroda published data for every villag... more At the Census of India, 1881, the former princely state of Baroda published data for every village and town, called Dehzado. After presenting the general demography of Baroda state, this article presents an analysis of data on caste, tribe and religion. It provides classification of villages and towns by the number of castes and tribes found in them, and discusses the issues posed by them, especially the issue of single-caste villages. This article describes the horizontal spread of various castes, tribes and religious minorities and points out its implications. In the end, it discusses the problem of urbanisation, classifying the towns by ethnic groups found in them.

The planning requires undertaking study of topography, water resources, land utilization, and development needs. The RS & GIS techniques offers suitable analytical opportunity to study variables required for selection of sites for various uses. This paper presents process adopted for the preparation of development plan of Anand Vidyanagar Karamsad Urban Development Authority (AVKUDA), regarding the land suitability analysis. The location and types of land to be protected were identified using RS Data and GIS analysis.

The presentation is still to be edited as per the paper and more time is required to get it ready for the publication. Meanwhile I would need the feedback on the concepts mentioned and concerned expressed in paper in context with India. Internationally there are much improved situation and LIS (Land Information System) is very well researched. We done little bit in last two decades, but still at the basics.
