This research describes the ecological crisis that occurred in Indonesia which is represented in ... more This research describes the ecological crisis that occurred in Indonesia which is represented in Indonesian prose and its relation to the reality of the ecological crisis that occurred in Indonesia. This research is important because prose as a literary work can portray the reality of the ecological crisis that occurred in Indonesia. The prose is Indonesian prose which published in the range 2011-2016. The analysis was conducted based on the study of ecocriticism. Based on the results of the study, the ecological crisis that occurred in Indonesia was represented in Indonesian prose. The ecological crisis occurs because of the anthropocentric perspective and human attitude towards nature/environment. This anthropocentric attitude is demonstrated by excessive exploitation of natural resources which results in the ecological crisis of forests, destruction of karst, and river water pollution (rivers and seas) that occur in parts of Indonesia (Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi), Kalimantan and Wes...
Masyarakat tradisional cenderung memiliki perspektif ekosentris dibandingkan dengan masyarakat mo... more Masyarakat tradisional cenderung memiliki perspektif ekosentris dibandingkan dengan masyarakat modern. Hal ini karena masyarakat tradisional masih memegang teguh kearifan lokal yang berkembang dalam komunitasnya. Dengan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal yang masih dijaga dan dilestarikan, terutama kearifan lokal yang berkaitan dengan lingkungan, akan memungkinkan terjaga dan telestarikannya keindahan lingkungan dan keseimbangan alam/ekosistem. Selain itu, akan menumbuhkan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap lingkungan sehingga ketika lingkungan mulai dirusak oleh pihak luar, masyarakat akan melakukan penentangan dan perlawanan. Permasalahan tersebut terepresentasi dalam novel-novel Indonesia kontemporer yang terbit dalam rentang tahun 2013 – 2016 yang akan dibahas dalam tulisan ini. This study described the representation of ecospirituality in the novel of Baiat Cinta di Tanah B... more This study described the representation of ecospirituality in the novel of Baiat Cinta di Tanah Baduy by Uten Sutendy. The analysis was conducted based on the study of ecocriticism. As the result, the characters who had eco-centric perspective showed positive attitudes toward the environment, like keeping and preserving the environment. In addition, the ecospiritual perspective of Baduy community in the novel was the way of thinking to see a nature spiritually, namely, belief that preserving and nurturing nature/environment was a God-given task to Baduy community which was done in the form of a daily ritual activity that reflected the spiritual value.

Despite being positioned as inferior by the colonial and patriarchal systems of the time, Indones... more Despite being positioned as inferior by the colonial and patriarchal systems of the time, Indonesian women were involved in the resistance against Dutch colonization. Now recognized as national heroes, these women took part in the struggle by directly participating in fighting, or indirectly through social initiatives. Among them was Roehana Koeddoes, whose resistance is depicted in the short story, “Belenggu Emas”, by Iksaka Banu, wherein an indigenous woman from West Sumatra establishes a school dedicated to teaching women and a newspaper, Soenting Melajoe, published by and for women. This study aimed to represent Roehana Koeddoes’s resistance to Dutch colonialism in Banu’s story, using a qualitative method with a post-colonial theory approach. The results showed that Roehana Koeddoes’s resistance to Dutch colonialism was in the form of mimicry, hybridity, and ambivalence. The mimicry shown is the imitation of the colonial discourse regarding superiority of knowledge, education, e...
