With benefit to others and a joyful attitude, longevity is a natural inclination that Daoism honors. Also, the elder's wisdom is revered; thus, Daoists care deeply about preserving life for the value of lived experiential knowledge rather than simply from the fear of dying. Aversion to death is the natural state of life and Daoism is all about respecting the natural order. The 81 poems of the Daodejing are broken up into 3 categories by Wudang Daoists-these are: Lao Tzu as a government strategist, Lao Tzu as an advanced spiritual student, and Lao Tzu as an enlightened master-correlating to the development of society, knowledge, and spirituality, respectively (Dao). The great wisdom in the Daodejing was written in the hope of rebalancing the imbalance in all three of these areas, and to inspire living in harmony between the earth and heaven. [And,] as he was riding off into the desert to die-sick at heart at the ways of men-he was persuaded by the gatekeeper in northwestern China to write his teaching for posterity…Whereas Confucianism is concerned with day-today rules of conduct, [Daoism] is concerned with a more spiritual level of being. (Feng, English)

Associate professor of law Geneva Brown (2010) writes on the detriment to Black families, and particularly, the perceptions and perspectives of African American women: To deliver up bodies destined for profitable punishment, the political economy of [the prisonindustrial-complex] relies on racialized assumptions of criminality -such as images of black welfare mothers reproducing criminal children -and on racist practices in arrest, conviction, and sentencing patterns. (p. 1) Next at hand (2), addiction formation is thought to involve the complex interaction of genetics, environmental and developmental factors, neurobiological mechanisms, and socialized deviancy. A detailed synopsis is explicated by addiction specialist Gabor Maté, MD in his must read book, In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts (2010, pp. 148-183). Dr. Maté works at the Portland Hotel, a safe injection site in Vancouver, B.C.'s downtown lower eastside.
