_8:35 pm_[poptopia] | Christopher's Gourmet Grill This is a pseudo-review of Christopher's Gourmet Grill, mostly because I only had take-out from the place and I wasn't the one picking it up. Now that I've gotten the logistics out of the way...( Read more...Collapse ) Current Mood: sleepy (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_4:32 pm_[skyschemer] | Thanksgiving buffet options? Can anyone suggest some options in town for a Thanksgiving buffet? In the past we've done Salty's, but it's gotten a bit pricey for what you get so we'd like to explore other options, too. We're not looking for swanky, just nice and appropriate for out of town guests. Figure an upper limit of $50/person (excluding drinks). (Comment on this) |

_1:34 pm_[mrrranda] | birthday deals Any suggestions for deeply discounted birthday meals (i.e., buy one entree - get one free, or 50% off check)? I'm aiming higher than a free knob of ice cream.Hoping for Asian, Middle Eastern, and/or fancy, but if you know of Latin/Caribbean, Indian, or other kinds of restaurants offering deals, please post! Not so much into Mexican or standard American fare like hamburgers and chicken strips, though. Thanks! (7 Comments |Comment on this) |

_6:08 pm_[nabeyaki_udon] | awesome tacos Ever eat meat that was seasoned in such a way, you can still "taste" it several hours later? In a good way. I've been getting lunch at La Superior on 2727 N Lombard. I think there was a fairly popular taco joint here previously too. Tacos are 1.15andburritosare1.15 and burritos are 1.15andburritosare3.99. And they have a lot of combo plates priced differently. I love this joint. It's dingy inside but I got a feeling it's pretty darn authentic. The food tastes amazing without needing to be smothered in cheese or sour cream. (Comment on this) |

_5:48 pm_[poptopia] | Salty's for brunch I had a really nice celebratory brunch at Salty’s On the Columbia the other weekend. From what I’ve gathered, people either seem to really like Salty’s or find it mediocre. I’m not sure if the differing opinions vary based on dinner versus brunch buffet, but I have no complaints. ( Read more...Collapse )Current Mood: calm (3 Comments |Comment on this) |

_9:43 pm_[blackjackrocket] | So it's my birthday this Friday and I'm looking for some food advice.Usually I go out to lunch by myself at some place that offers free birthday lunches. I used to go to Todai but they stopped doing it--is it true they've started again? Where else is good that's near the Max line that would have that? And also I'm looking for something new for dinner with my parents and sister (and my friend and my sister's boyfriend). We have a wide palate, but since we're looking for something new, that rules out American, Thai, Italian, Japanese, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Chinese. Also I don't much like seafood of any sort. So what's out there in the 20$ or less price range? (2 Comments |Comment on this) |

_5:44 pm_[nabeyaki_udon] | Need a lunch spot recommendation So, taking a cute girl out tomorrow.1. Preferably in NW PDX2. Has to be open early afternoon, on a Saturday.3. UBER TRENDY and well thought out decor.4. Cuisine style doesn't matter.FYI, for that dinner place I was previously asking for, another Damnedportlander suggested Aquariva, and I ended up there. _11:37 am_[raindancer_jess] | Hartwell's in Milwaukie Yesterday evening I went to Hartwell’s in downtown Milwaukie. This is a lovely new vegan-friendly restaurant. There are some tasty-sounding meatand fish dishes also; but it was refreshing to see that the default here is vegan, and all options are clearly marked on the menu. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgable. There is a view of the kitchen with seating to watch your food be prepared, seats at the full bar, and plenty of white-clothed tables with fresh flowers. This is a very clean and open atmosphere. Jazz was playing in the background. Appetizers are around 8anddinnerentreesarearound8 and dinner entrees are around 8anddinnerentreesarearound17. Coffee is brought in a french press. Fresh rye bread with agave nectar was a nice beginning to the meal.I ordered the stuffed phyllo pastries with lemon aoli appetizer – the flavors complimented each other well. For dinner I chose wild mushroom risotto. This was served with sweet carmelized onions and wilted greens. The risotto was exactly what I was hoping for, with a deep earthy flavor and plenty of mushrooms. For dessert, a simple ice cream (made with cashew milk), and I would have tried the lemon tart too if I were not so full.I went home quite pleased, and I intend to return. Hours are Wed-Sun, lunch 11-2, dinner 5-10. 10608 SE Main St., Milwaukie, (503) 387-5866. (2 Comments |Comment on this) |
