In this work, the activity of the enzymes lipase. peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase have been determined in hazelnuts dried under three temperatures (30, 50 and 70°C). The drying experiments were done with forced air circulation, and samples of Negret variety. unshelled and shelled, were used. It has been observed that the drying process reduces the activity of the enzymes lipase, peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase in hazelnut, and the results indicated that polyphenoloxidase is the most unstable to heat.

In 2003, a randomised controlled trial comparing injected diacetylmorphine and oral methadone was carried out in Andalusia, Spain. The subsequent follow-up study evaluated the health and drug use status of participants, 2 years after the completion of the trial. Design and Methods. This follow-up cohort study was carried out between March and August 2006. Data collected included information on socio-demographics, drug use, health and health-related quality of life. We compared data collected before randomisation and at 2 years for the following three groups: those currently on heroin-assisted treatment (C-HAT), those who have discontinued HAT (D-HAT), and those who have never received HAT (N-HAT). Results. From the total 62 randomised participants in 2003, 54 (87%) were interviewed for this study. Participants were distributed as follow: C-HAT 44.4% (24), N-HAT 22.2% (12) and D-HAT 33.3% (18). Illicit heroin use had a statistically significant decrease in the three groups from baseline to 2 years post trial. Mean days of heroin use were 2.42 (SD = 3.02); 6.56 (SD = 9.48) and 13.92 (SD = 12.59) for the C-HAT, D-HAT and N-HAT groups, respectively. Those currently on HAT were the only group that sustained at 2 years, their marked improvement in health after 9 months of treatment during the trial period. Discussion and Conclusions: Patients who received HAT showed better outcomes compared with those not on HAT. The results of this study strengthen the evidence showing that HAT can improve and stabilise the health of long-term heroin users with severe comorbidities and high mortality.[Oviedo-Joekes E, March JC, Romero M, Perea-Milla E. Two models, one for the ionization of the air by the laser pulse and the second for the streamer evolution have been computed. From results of numerical simulations the influence of the laser parameters such as energy, pulse duration and beam radius is analyzed and electron distributions are obtained for different small gaps. Electric field, streamer velocity and evolution of the ionized volume are calculated by means of streamer simulations. This paper shows the main features of the laser-triggered discharges and also the importance of using numerical simulations in a laser-triggered experiment.

Partially purified, hog kidney renin was continuously infused into isolated rat livers perfused in a nonrecirculating manner with serum-free medium. Concentrations of renin in the portal and hepatic veins were measured by radioimmunoassay and first-pass hepatic extraction calculated. In livers from normal rats, steady-state, first-pass hepatic extraction of porcine renin ranged from 12.3 ± 0.9 to 25.5 ± 3.9% of the infused dose; at high renin infusion rates, hepatic extraction was saturable. Administration of captopril, a converting enzyme inhibitor, decreased hepatic extraction of renin by approximately 60%; enalaprilat, another converting enzyme inhibitor, had no effect. First-pass hepatic extraction of renin was also inhibited by the bile acid, taurocholate, in a dose-dependent manner. However, bilateral nephrectomy, which reduced endogenous plasma renin activity to unmeasurable levels, had no significant effect on hepatic extraction of renin by livers isolated from nephrectomized rats. These results demonstrate directly that the liver extracts renin in a dose-dependent and saturable manner, although the precise mechanism of uptake remains to be determined.

Along the longitudinal axis from the Ter River downstream to the dam, we characterized a microbial succession of food web dominance of bacteria-HNF-ciliates. The Ter River transports a large load of organic material into the reservoir, with a bacterial density of ~9 · 10 6 large cells per ml. While at the first lacustrine station of the Reservoir HNF were the dominant bacterial consumers, at the others, an oligotrich ciliate, Halteria grandinella, was the main protozoan bacterivore. Most of the bacterial production in the reservoir epilimnion was consumed by grazing. The spatial succession of the reservoir microbial food webs was followed downstream by maximum densities of their potential predators among zooplankters -rotifers, and early developmental stages of copepods.

The first route involves derivatization, protection, and deprotection steps, which stretch the syntheses. The second method provides a shorter and more efficient strategy to accessing the furoindole. The innovation starts with alkylation at C-2 of the indole presenting at the C-3 position a ketone-acetal, followed by the cycloaromatization catalyzed by polymeric ion-exchange resins. The second route represents a significant improvement over other methods previously described.
