COVID-19 vaccine for spring 2026
Between April to June 2026 a dose of COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for people at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 which includes:
- Adults 80 years and older should receive an additional dose of vaccine.
- Adults 65 to 79 years may receive an additional dose of vaccine.
- Residents of long-term care homes or other congregate living settings for seniors.
- People 6 months and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised due to an underlying condition or treatment.
- First Nations, Inuit or Métis individuals 55 years and older, as well as their non-Indigenous household member 55 years and older.
Eligible individuals may receive the COVID-19 vaccine if it has been 3 months since the last dose or confirmed COVID-19 infection.
The vaccine is free, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. You do not need an Ontario health card to get the vaccine.
If you are not listed as at increased risk of severe illness
It’s not recommended that you start or finish a COVID-19 vaccine series or get an additional dose this spring. You should wait for further recommendations closer to fall 2026.
Novavax
The protein subunit vaccine (Novavax) will not be available in Ontario for the 2025-26 COVID-19 vaccination program.
If you're unable to receive an mRNA vaccine you should speak with your health care provider about treatment options, including the use of Paxlovid, to reduce the duration and severity of illness.
For more information go to Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine website.
