Amanda Seyfried's 2 Kids: All About Nina and Thomas (original) (raw)

Amanda Seyfried has taken on the role of a lifetime – being a mom to her two children, Nina and Thomas.

The Mamma Mia! actress and her husband, Thomas Sadoski, whom she met in 2015 while starring in the off-Broadway play The Way We Get By, have two children together: daughter Nina and son Thomas.

Seyfried — who became a first-time mother in 2017 with the arrival of their daughter — found giving birth to be such an incredible experience that she contemplated becoming a doula herself.

"I was like, this is the most amazing thing I've ever been a part of. I have to be there for women; childbirth is amazing," she told Marie Claire. "I was talking to my doula a lot about what she did. I was like, 'That sounds like the best thing,' and I just wanted to be there when people have a baby."

Though Seyfried didn’t move forward with obtaining the necessary certifications to make it official, she did venture into another job involving children — creating a line of durable, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing playhouses called Make It Cute. When it came time to test out the prototype, the actress enlisted her children’s help.

"My kids love playing in it. They just want to go and explore and make their own space," she told PEOPLE in April 2023. "Sometimes I'll look away and I'll come out in the living room and I'll be like, where are they? And they're both in the house ... and they're playing nicely."

Although The Dropout actress admits that juggling her busy career while raising her two kids can be "chaotic" at times, she's grateful to have the support of those around her, including her own mother.

"I have a full-time career and two kids," she previously told PEOPLE. "It's a lot of work, but I love it. My family is very supportive of it ... For sure it sounds like it's chaotic, and it is in some ways, but I've also found so much peace in where I live. Plus, my mom lives with me which helps."

From the films she's looking forward to showing her children to how she's raising them on a farm away from the spotlight, here's everything to know about Amanda Seyfried's two kids.

Seyfried and Sadoski welcomed their daughter, Nina, on March 24, 2017. Her arrival came just weeks after the pair eloped when Seyfried was nine months pregnant.

“I really wanted to have rings on in the hospital, you know? And what if something goes wrong, and he’s not legally my husband?” she told PorterEdit.

Seyfried shared during an appearance on Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast that the pregnancy came as a surprise. “We knew that we wanted to be together and make a baby, but you know, sometimes things happen and it’s the biggest blessing in the world,” she said. “We were so excited.”

The actress also revealed that she was in labor for 24 hours but that her daughter’s arrival made it all worth it. “It was just perfect,” she said. “It was quiet and beautiful, and it was the best moment of my life for sure. And I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

After Nina’s birth, the family moved from California to a farm in New York’s Catskill Mountains. "It was very conscious," she said of the move during an interview on Sunday TODAY withhost Willie Geist."I've always wanted to live on a farm. I just need to feel grounded somewhere that I can trust will always be there."

While Seyfried maintains a private life for her children, she does share glimpses into life on the farm, including her daughter helping out.

“She’s hired,” she captioned the video of Nina scooping food into bowls, opening the barn doors and calling for the goats to come inside.

In addition to her passion for animals, Nina also shares a similar interest with her parents – performing. "She's not working, but I know in my bones that this is what she is. She's a performer,” she told PEOPLE in 2023. “Will she do it as a career? Who knows?"

Seyfried said she would be supportive if her daughter followed in her famous mom’s footsteps. "Totally," Seyfried told PEOPLE at the 2022 Emmy Awards when asked whether she would support her daughter pursuing acting. "My husband's like, 'I'm terrified.' "

"And I was like, 'Let her do what she's going to do. She's a f------ child of actors. What do you expect?' " she joked.

Seyfried shared that her daughter is starting to comprehend what her job entails. "She's starting to really appreciate that this is what I do for a living, and she understands it as much as any 6-year-old can," the Mamma Mia! star told PEOPLE. "When I say ‘I'm going to go do this, you'll see me on TV,' she'll be like, 'Okay mama,' and she misses me, but when I come back, she's proud ... She has this pride."

Seyfried tries to include her daughter in certain aspects of her career, including when she’s getting ready for red carpet events. For the 2021 Golden Globes, she shared the sweet way she involved her daughter in her glam squad.

"I wouldn't let her do my makeup tonight so she brushed my hand," Seyfried captioned an Instagram Story of Nina applying makeup to her hand.

The actress – who’s had a two-decade career in film, theater and TV – opened up to PEOPLE two years after her daughter’s birth about which works in her repertoire she would like for her daughter to see when she gets older.

“I want her to see Letters to Juliet because so many young girls — girls of all ages, really — come up to me and say, ‘I loved Letters to Juliet. It was so beautiful.’ ”

There's no word on whether or not Nina has seen that particular movie yet, but she has seen Mamma Mia!, and according to what Seyfried told PEOPLE in September 2024, her daughter is "obsessed."

“My mom showed my daughter, and my daughter is now obsessed, and so she's 7, so she's in second grade, and all her friends are obsessed. So now they're starting to recognize me as Sophie, which is a little weird, but how beautiful,” she said. “I don't think she quite understands it, but she loves it. She loves it!”

On Sept. 28, 2020, Seyfried and Sadoski revealed they had welcomed their second child, son Thomas, after keeping the pregnancy under wraps.

The couple announced his birth in a statement to INARA and War Child USA alongside a photo of their newborn. "Since the birth of our daughter 3 years ago our commitment to the innocent children that are so brutally affected by conflict and war has been a driving force in our lives," the couple said. "With the birth of our son the work of INARA and War Child has become our North Star."

Seyfried shared with PEOPLE in 2021 that labor and delivery with her son didn’t go as smoothly as she had hoped. "I had something that went wrong with my second birth,” she said. “The baby was okay but it was tricky and it was painful and it didn't have to happen, and it did so it added an extra level of trauma."

Welcoming a baby during the pandemic had some upsides for the actress, as she was able to do press events virtually, including the 2021 Golden Globes.

While speaking with E!’s Giuliana Rancic for the red carpet, Seyfried glanced at Thomas off-camera and told her, "I've got my son, who is 5 months old, laying against a pillow in a tux. I wish I could show you, he's in a tux. Actually we haven't put the bow-tie on. I was just feeding him. ... It's really a wonderful time, isn't it for everybody?"

Just a few months later, Thomas made his first TV cameo when he crashed his mom’s virtual interview for Sunday TODAY withhost Willie Geist.

"Say hi. Look at that nice man," she said to Thomas.

"Hi buddy. Oh my God, what a cute guy. Come on," Geist said of the then-7-month-old.

Seyfried told Geist that even though she has to “squeeze in so much more work” doing press from home, “The benefits outweigh everything.”

Despite her son being around cameras from a young age, Seyfried revealed he doesn’t understand what she does for a living.

"My son is only 2½, so I have no idea what his understanding is. When I was on the Today show I was watching with him, and his reaction was sad!" she told PEOPLE in April 2023, explaining that he associates her being on TV with being away from home. "He's like, 'Mama!' and I was like, 'Hey, I am right here!' It doesn't make sense [to him], and it shouldn't."
