Although Gwyneth Paltrow‘s professional priorities have shifted, her focus on family has not.

The Goop founder opened up to Matt Lauer on Today Friday about staying close to Chris Martin following their 2014 split and continued co-parenting of their two children.

“We’re a family,” she says, “Even though we’re not in a romantic relationship, we’re a true family and we like to do things to reinforce that we’re a family for the children and for each other.”

She adds: “He’s like my brother. I’m very close to him.”

The family’s latest high-profile outing?

Paltrow brought Apple, 11, and Moses, 9, to the Super Bowl to support their dad as he performed in the halftime show.

“It’s pretty incredible,” Paltrow tells Lauer. “It’s also a little weird that [the kids]’ first football game is that. They were so proud of him and it was such a gorgeous performance and very uplifting.”

Paltrow and Martin consciously uncoupled in 2014, which she says caused an unanticipated media frenzy.

“I unwittingly created a whole sort of hoopla with my choice of words,” the 43-year-old explains. “It wasn’t my words actually – I was sort of following a theory but it was a very intense time for our family and emotions were very high and deep and all over the place, so I just tried to keep to myself as much as possible.”

The couple have yet to officially divorce.

Meanwhile, Paltrow – whose last onscreen gig was early last year – says she will probably return to acting at some point, but right now Goop is her “24/7 focus.”

“It’s been a very steep learning curve,” she says. “It’s very challenging. It’s very exciting.”
