Lance Bass has given a whole new context to “This I Promise You“.

The former ‘NSYNC member, 35, wed artist Michael Turchin, 27, at the legendary Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on Saturday, PEOPLE and E! confirm exclusively.

“We love each other so much,” Bass tells PEOPLE of his new husband, whom he met almost four years ago at a friend’s birthday celebration in Palm Springs, California.

And what a unique ceremony it was.

Wedding planner Sharon Sacks – who did Kim Kardashian and Kanye West‘s nuptials – produced a unique ceremony with a wedding party that included supermodel flower girls and the couple’s three dogs, but also incorporated classic traditions from Bass’s southern Baptist upbringing and Turchin’s Jewish heritage.

Bass says the approximately 300 guests – including Lisa Vanderpump and Bass’s former ‘NSYNC bandmates JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick – were asked to come dressed as though they were attending “a royal wedding but at the Met Ball.”

(Justin Timberlake is currently on tour and was unable to attend, but Bass says the “Mirrors” singer “feels bad” about missing the festivities.)

The couple wore custom tuxes they designed in collaboration with stylist Jeff Kim and the ceremony – which will be televised as part of an E! special, Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding, (airing Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. ET) – was officiated by actresses JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Jamie-Lynn Sigler, whom the newlyweds consider very close friends.

“You could easily go to a preacher, a pastor or a rabbi but I don t like that because you don’t really know them. You have a stranger in charge of the most important day of your life,” says Bass. “We loved the idea of using someone who knows us.”

And as for the vows, the grooms wrote those themselves.

“There’s no one in the world that makes me laugh more than Lance,” says Turchin. “He’s just such an incredible person. I couldn’t imagine waking up next to anybody else.”

“Michael gets my crazy life and he fits perfectly into it,” adds Bass. “We’re best friends.”
