Lana Del Rey and Kim Kardashian Pose in 'Sister Corset' Looks at the 2024 Met Gala (original) (raw)

When it came to the dress code, the Garden of Time, McGirr told Vogue they wanted to lean into the more "sinister aspects," including a corseted dress in silk and tulle covered in hand-embroidered hammered bronze-bullion hawthorn branches.

For her Vogue interview, Del Rey teamed up with Kim Kardashian, whom she recently worked with for a Valentine's Day SKIMS campaign. Comparing their looks, Del Rey pointed out that they had "sister corset shapes going on," referencing the reality star's Margiela by John Galliano dress that featured a dramatically tiny corset.

During the interview, the two also bonded over their love of family as Kardashian noted she was excited to see her sisters inside the Met. "That makes me so happy," Del Rey responded. "This day and age that is so rare — I have my sister at the hotel who was shooting everything with us at the hotel, my brother taking video. When our families worked together for SKIMS. I love that you're on a group chat."

"That's one thing we talked about," Kardashian continued. "Having our family close and always there no matter what has kept us super grounded."

Elsewhere on the red carpet, the "Video Games" singer spoke with Entertainment Tonight, where she gushed about her pal Taylor Swift's recent album release, The Tortured Poets Department.

Of the album's many tracks, some of which seemingly include references to Swift's feud with Kardashian, Del Rey noted that her favorite at the moment is "Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?" which recounts Swift's complicated time in the spotlight. "It's beautiful," Del Rey added of Swift's album.

The musicians previously teamed up for Swift's Midnights track "Snow on the Beach," and have made many sweet appearances together since, including the 2024 Super Bowl and the Grammys where the album took home album of the year and Swift gave a sweet shoutout to Del Rey.

Del Rey recently performed at Coachella in Indio, California, where she sparkled in a glittery periwinkle blue dress from Dolce & Gabbana with a midriff cutout and pleated detailing in the skirt. She also brought out surprise guest Billie Eilish for a duet of Eilish's hit song, "Ocean Eyes."

The 2024 Met Gala theme ties into the upcoming Costume Institute exhibit that will feature approximately 250 items — including 15 significant pieces such as an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown — that span more than 400 years of history.

According to Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, the exhibition will be shaped around three main “zones” — Land, Sea, and Sky — that pay tribute to the natural world. “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” Bolton said.

The dress code for the 2024 Met Gala is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard story of the same name.
