Tim Burton‘s Dumbo live-action reimagining is flying high after its recent world premiere in Los Angeles where some audience members loved what they saw.

The Disney film, based on the 1941 animated classic, stars Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, and Alan Arkin, and explores the journey of an elephant that goes from laughing stock to circus star.

“A beautiful and whimsical movie starring a CGI elephant with so much heart,” beamed one attendee.

Another gushed, “It’s absolutely wonderful — a beautiful story, quite different than the original, that won’t leave a dry eye in the theater.”

_Alice in Wonderland_’s Burton is no stranger to crafting retellings of classic Disney tales.

“It was always one of my favorite Disney stories and one I had fond memories of,” Burton told PEOPLE last year. “It’s a very sweet story, and also very simple and primal — I think that’s why people like it so much. It’s about an outsider, someone who is misperceived, and I’ve always been drawn to stories like that.”

Of being on set, Farrell said the experience was unlike anything else he’s ever been a part of.

“Walking on set was jaw dropping,” he previously told PEOPLE. “Tim’s vision for this world and his honoring of not only the purity, but the true strength and resilience of children was like nothing I have been a part of in film before.”
