Selena Gomez might be one of the most famous 30-something-year-olds alive, but even she gets starstruck from time to time.

Recalling the moment Meryl Streep appeared on the Only Murders in the Building set upon joining the show for its third season, Gomez told The Hollywood Reporter: "I don't even think I spoke the first day she was around."

"She was so excited, and when she came on set, she told everybody that she loves the show," she continued. "I was just admiring her."

"She's an inspiration and she's someone who is incredibly talented while being very humble, and professional and kind," she added. "I've learned so much from her just by her being Meryl."

Streep, 75, plays Broadway star Loretta Durkin in the Hulu series, and so she had to sing and perform in quite a few scenes, which Gomez said was "chilling" to get to experience in person.

"My favorite moment was watching Meryl sing onstage," she told the outlet. "She would do it a capella, live every time and I cried. I wasn't in the scene, but I was there sitting in the audience, and I was completely moved and was brought to tears."

"Just the way she commits to her craft in every way is remarkable. It was beautiful."

Ever since Streep joined the cast of Only Murders – appearing alongside Gomez and her hilarious costars Steve Martin and Martin Short – the "Love On" songstress has been singing her praises.

When they wrapped season 3, Gomez said it had been "deliriously hilarious, challenging and...an absolute dream" before shouting out Streep specifically, calling her "the woman I adore, look up to and love πŸ₯°" in an Instagram post.

Short previously told PEOPLE that it was "coincidental" that she was cast as a love interest for his character Oliver Putnam as he recalled how eager she was to "be on the show."

"The story with Meryl is she phoned me and said, 'I want to be on it,'" he recalled. "The writing is so good, and the directing, and the execution of the show is so good that it makes people say, 'Oh, I want to be on it.'"

The set of the show – whose fourth season premieres in August – is "very, very, very loose [and] fun-filled," Short, 74, said. "I think everyone has the same review of that working on the show – that it's really fun and loose – and that's kind of the philosophy and Steve, the way he's always worked, and so is Selena."
