Maggie Gyllenhaal is an American actress and director. She began her acting career as a teenager, appearing alongside brother Jake Gyllenhaal in 2001's Donnie Darko. Her most notable films include Adaptation (2002), Secretary (2002), Mona Lisa Smile (2003), Sherrybaby (2006), The Dark Knight (2008), Crazy Heart (2009), Won't Back Down (2012), White House Down (2013) and The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). In 2015, she won a Golden Globe for her starring role in BBC's The Honourable Woman. Gyllenhaal made her directorial debut with 2021's The Lost Daughter, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
