Descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 270 respondents. The main instrument used for data collection was self designed questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics of Pearson product moment correlation. The findings rev...

Economic, social and psychological problems exert enormous pressures on students making them violent or docile in the face of challenges. These factors combine to make tertiary institutions hotbeds of deviant dating violence behavior with females mostly, but not exclusively, at the receiving end. The outcome of these may include a feeling of insecurity, particularly among female students thereby discouraging them from enrolling in higher institutions and further accentuating the skewed student population in favour of males. Descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 270 respondents. The main instrument used for data collection was self designed questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics of Pearson product moment correlation. The findings rev...

Generally, communities need proper social mobilization so that they can participate and maintain reliable status quo in their locality. It is easier for them to speak with one voice when they are brought together. This is why social mobilization yields progress. Communities are important in any developmental programme; thus, they must be actively integrated in the overall process of developmental programme. This paper concludes that community development programmes can only succeed when community participation is seen as crucial and complementary to social mobilization and that effective community involvement are important aspects and drivers of development. It is, therefore recommended that communities be socially mobilized and encouraged to form associations for development programme initiatives. Social workers, governments, philanthropists and non-governmental organizations should organize enlightenment programmes that would encourage community members to participate more fully in development programmes.

Education in the largest sense is act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another. The African continent has the oldest institutional provision for distance higher and further education in the globe. ODL is characterized by the learner taking greater control over what to learn and when to learn it. Even though facilitators are responsible for packaging and facilitating learners’ learning, facilitator-learner face-to face contact constitutes a minor part of the learning process. ODL provides avenues for higher education for such a vast under-privileged population. Nigeria is generously endowed with human resources that need to be well equipped with literacy and skills to contribute to economic development, which is badly needed for this country. ODL at the tertiary level shows a two-fold development pattern.Open and distance learning schemes hold a number og potential benefits for various stakeholders in the education and development process. To the learners, ODL means more freedom of access as well as wider range of opportunities for learning and qualifications, thereby improving their social status. It is often cheaper means of attending school for the learners since some people may not be able to leave their place of work to go to school for full time. Open and distance learning programme has to be encouraged, financed and promoted.
