I do so wish he had stayed on The Hobbit, and it is my fondest wish that one day either Tim Burton will do a claymation, non-musical version of Phantom (probably with Christopher Lee as Erik's voice) or that del Toro will do a live-action, non-musical version of Phantom (with Doug Jones as Erik* with Christopher Lee as Erik's voice). Because how fucking amazing would that be?*And if it ever happened it's virtually 100% that Doug would play Erik, because (a) perfect fucking casting just because he's so fucking skinny and expressive, and (b) del Toro has publicly stated that if he has a monster in his movie, Doug will be playing it, because of the way he brings soul (or it might have been heart) to his characters.
