Many Mom Cats and Babies at PAWS need Your Help! (original) (raw)

I'm a volunteer at PAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, and I've been looking for more places to get the word out about fostering kittens. PAWS/PACCA gets over 30,000 animals a year and right now we are still battling kitten season and usually have between 25 and 40 litters who need to be fostered or they'll be euthanized due to space. I thought there might be people in this community who'd be interested in fostering - please let me know if you are and i can help you out. This is a post I make a couple times a week with pictures i've taken of every litter of kittens in the building, and i post it on craiglist, myspace, facebook, blogs, and anywhere I can find - please let me know if you know of any other good places i might find philly-area foster parents!

Our foster care coordinator Natalie, volunteers, and foster parents have done an amazing job of getting kittens out of the shelter lately – Thank you to everyone who has come in and taken a litter of kittens – you are saving their lives, and the lives of other kittens who can take their place in the shelter until someone comes for them. However, the city is still full of people who let their pets have babies and don’t want them, so dozens of litters of kittens come in each and every day. Litters of kittens at PAWS as of noon 8/24/08:

  1. 7 adorable tabby kittens less than 4 weeks old (surrendered because their pet “kept having babies”)– they have teeth and should be able to eat wet food but need supervision.

  1. COMPLETELY EMACIATED tortie mom cat – she is so skinny and doing such an awesome job of taking care of her babies, she really deserves a foster home where she can fatten up! She has 3 6-8 week old kittens.

  1. Tuxedo mom cat with 4 infant kittens – the shelter is a bad place to raise babies! They can very easily get sick and need a foster home.

  1. Litter of 4 gray tabby kittens about 4 weeks old – they should be eating on their own but may need supervision.

  1. Litter of 5 kittens 4-6 weeks old. They’re a little skinny and need someone to make sure they’re eating well. A couple of them are fluffy!

  1. Litter of 5 kittens 4-6 weeks old.

  1. Litter of 2 scared black and white kittens 7-9 weeks old – need lots of love and socialization.

  1. Gray tabby mo with 2 2-3 week old kittens.

  1. Tuxedo mom with 4 6-8 week old kittens.

  1. White mom cat with gray tabby spots with 5 4 week old kittens

  1. Medium-long haired muted tortie mom with 4 4-6 week old kittens.

  1. Litter of 3 scared fluffy kittens who will need some love and TLC – about 4-6 weeks old

  1. Litter of 3 different sized kittens – they came in together but I don’t think they’re from the same litter. One looks about 12 weeks, one 8, and one 6 – and one of them is a beautiful fluffy kitten!

  1. Litter of 2 scared black and white kittens 6-8 weeks old.

  1. Tuxedo mom with 3 8-12 week old kittens – she has been here quite some time, her kittens shouldn’t have to grow up in a shelter!

  1. Orange/brown female tabby cat too old to be a sister and too young to be a mom to 6-8 week old white and gray kitten.

  1. Black mom cat with 3 kittens 6-12 weeks old.

IF YOU CAN FOSTER AN ANIMAL: Come to the shelter (111 W. Hunting Park Avenue) immediately. A staff person or foster care volunteer will be thrilled to help you find the right animal(s) for you to take into safety. Foster care hours are 11 am to 6 pm every day of the week - if you need to come after 6, please email me at Phillykitties@gmail.com and I will try my best to arrange it.
