We held the third Phil Miller Guitar prize in the Eastside Jazz Club at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on Thursday the 29th of February. To start the proceedings off we were treated to the inaugural performance of the Phil Miller Legacy Band. Fred T Baker and Jim Bashford have been working with the students for some time on this project which features students from the Jazz Department playing the music of Phil Miller. Here is the line up:
Piano: Marcus Coats, Bass: Kyle Welch, Drums: Kefan Hu, Vocals: Grace Conner,
Sax: Ben Kempner, Trumpet: Henry Hanson and Guitar: Jamie Mcleish. Fred joined the band on guitar on all numbers and Jim joined in with drums on the last number.

Here is a review of the Phil Miller Guitar Prize from Facelift’s Phil Howitt.
