A narcissistic personality is characterized by self-focus and a desire for admiration. It signifi... more A narcissistic personality is characterized by self-focus and a desire for admiration. It significantly influences makeup behaviour, particularly among young Thai men and women. This study aims to investigate this relationship and draw a comparison between Thai and Japanese men and women. Narcissistic personality traits present themselves in various behaviours, including excessive self-absorption and a strong desire for attention and admiration. Moreover, these traits often impact interpersonal relationships and self-presentation strategies with makeup behaviour serving as a common factor for self-expression and enhancement. This study conducted an online survey to investigate the link between narcissistic personality and makeup behaviour among Thai university students using the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI-35) and makeup behaviour assessment. Participants were asked to rate their engagement in makeup-related activities, such as makeup application, skincare routines, and fragrance usage. Statistical analyses were employed to examine correlations between narcissistic personality traits and makeup behaviour. Results revealed gender disparities in makeup behaviour, with women exhibiting higher levels of engagement in makeup, cleansing, and skincare compared to men. Narcissistic personality traits, particularly the need for attention and a sense of grandeur, significantly influenced makeup behaviour. Furthermore, men with higher praise for the body tended to prioritize skincare and fragrance, while women with strong leadership and praise for the body tendencies exhibited increased makeup usage. In conclusion, this study speculates that self-assurance regarding one's appearance could be associated with an assertive mind-set and a conscious desire for self-improvement in one's physical presentation. Furthermore, this study offers valuable insights into human behaviour and self-presentation strategies, with implications for future research and practical interventions aimed at promoting psychological well-being and self-expression.

Through globalization, products become increasingly obsolete more rapidly, and an overly market-centric approach has invited uniformity of products, causing consumers to become tired of products more quickly. As a result, this has produced a cycle of mass production, mass consumption, and then mass waste. The emergence of fast fashion in turn spurred more price competition and the contraction of the product cycle and, as a result, has led not only to environmental impact, but negatively affected the contexts of business management, planning, production, logistics, and sales, putting downward pressure on corporate profits and labor density beyond feasible limits, creating a downward spiral in which the very continuation of business is in question. The same was true of makeup. Therefore, people applied makeup in a certain way depending on the situation. There was a set of behavioural guidelines, which could be called the makeup norm, against which they measured their actual behaviour. This study investigated how differences in young people's narcissistic personality affected their makeup standards. This research was conducted using an online questionnaire survey with 118 males (M=19.38 years old, SD=1.37) and 161 females (M=19.33 years old, SD=1.11) .
本研究の目的は、電車内に限定して、化粧をはじめとする若者の迷惑行為の実行と意識との関係をあきらかにするとともに、それらと社会考慮、自尊感情、公的自意識、私的自意識の各個人差要因との関連性をあきら... more 本研究の目的は、電車内に限定して、化粧をはじめとする若者の迷惑行為の実行と意識との関係をあきらかにするとともに、それらと社会考慮、自尊感情、公的自意識、私的自意識の各個人差要因との関連性をあきらかにすることである。男性55人(平均年齢=19.53歳、SD=1.71)、女性88人(平均年齢=19.15歳、SD=1.28)を対象とする質問紙調査の結果、「化粧」「新聞や雑誌などを読む」をのぞいて、おおむね一般的に迷惑行為とされている行動を若者自身も迷惑行為と意識していることがわかった。また、実際にそれら迷惑行為をおこなうことはあまりないこと、必ずしも迷惑行為と意識していることが実際の行動に関係しているわけではないことがわかった。部分的ではあるが、迷惑行為の実行には自尊感情や私的自意識が、迷惑行為の意識には社会考慮や公的自意識が関連していた。The purposes of this study was to clarify the relationship between engaging in and understand of annoying acts such as young people applying makeup, exclusively on trains, and to clarify their association with factors of individual difference such as social consideration, self-esteem, public selfconsciousness, and private self-consciousness. It is hypothesized that young people's obsession with fashion is related to their narcissistic pe... more It is hypothesized that young people's obsession with fashion is related to their narcissistic personality tendencies, because they consider fashion, such as makeup and clothing, to be the foundation of their minds, value intimacy with their peers, and are able to create and express their own values. In this study, it examined how the differences in narcissistic personality of young people affect their makeup behaviors. This research was conducted using a questionnaire survey involving 92 male students (M=19.71 years old, SD=1.40) and 115 female students (M=19.38 years old, SD=1.23).
For the male students, it became clear that makeup behaviors were specified by “narcissistic personality”. It also became clear that makeup behaviors were specified by “leadership”, “self- praise”, and “need for attention” on narcissistic personality subscales. For the female students, it became clear that makeup behaviors were specified by “narcissistic personality”. It also became clear that makeup behaviors were specified by “leadership”, “self-praise”, “self-conviction”, “need for attention” on narcissistic personality subscales.

Ein Test ist ein Instrument oder eine systematische Prozedur zur Messung einer Probe von Verhalten. Die Schwäche der Hauptmessung der Lernergebnisse liegt im Allgemeinen nicht an der Form des Item Tests, der verwendet wird, sondern es liegt an den Bau des Item Tests. Aus diesem Grunde muss der Item Test an dem Buch erst analysiert werden. Ein guter Test muss drei Eigenschaftenen füllen. Young people's strong preoccupation with fashion such as clothing and makeup is thought to be... more Young people's strong preoccupation with fashion such as clothing and makeup is thought to be related to narcissistic personality. Several previous studies have shown a relationship between makeup behaviours and narcissistic personality in Japanese male and female adolescents. This study investigated the relationship between makeup behaviours and narcissistic personality was examined in Thai male and female adolescents, in order to compare the results with those of Japanese adolescents.
This research was conducted using an online survey with 83 males (M=19.96 years old, SD=1.49) and 305 females (M=19.96 years old, SD=1.27).
For the male, it was clear that makeup behaviours were partially specified by “narcissistic personality”. It was also clear that makeup behaviours were partially specified by “leadership” and “praise for the body” on narcissistic personality subscales. For the female, it was clear that makeup behaviours were partially specified by “narcissistic personality”. It was also clear that makeup behaviours were specified by “praise for the body” and were partially specified by “leadership” on narcissistic personality subscales.
