The Man, The Movies, The Legend (original) (raw)

Hi all. Newbie here. I've been a fan of Ed's movies since the first time I found a trailer for Plan 9, and I've been hunting his stuff down ever since-- not easy here in the Netherlands, but I'm making some progress. I finally managed to get my hands on a copy of Death Of A Transvestite, loved every bit of it. I'm actually quite surprised by how clever and open-minded the book is... really a nifty story, excellent quotes and pacing and characters and such, just... well, the usual Ed Wood writing style that makes it so wonderfully off-beat. I feel like I'm really starting to understand Glen/Glenda now. (For those of you who haven't read it-- (s)he's the main character of the novel, and is now a notorious mafia killer. Yes.) Also mad love for the character of Paul(ine), actually quite a deep character-- especially considering it's mostly a porn/murder/fashion novel (kind of like American Psycho, eh?), reminded me of Hedwig & The Angry Inch more than once... I'm just really happy to see Ed was so open-minded and clever, and really seemed to understand the differences between all types of "queers" (despite the silly dialogue in Glen Or Glenda). So much love. Moral: if you haven't yet read Death Of A Transvestite, or Ed's other novels (which I'm just going to assume are just as good), go out and buy them... it's wonderful stuff. (And apologies if I'm preaching to the choir. ;) ) | |

Eggs Eggs, Oh God God, I'm in here Mr. Egg Man!! | [13 Dec 2005|05:08pm] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | amused ] gopher_bites and I were just smoking cigarrettes and some how the conversation transitioned from Toe Jam and Earl to Johnathan Winters, because I saw his evil twin at work the other day. In discussing him we connected that in the 70's he was hatched from a gigantic egg in Mork and Mindy. Then in the very early 80's he played a gigantic egg (Humpty Dumpty) in the sweeping television miniseries of Alice in Wonderland. Then in the late 80's and early 90's he made pro egg eating comercials for the national egg council. How did the man's life become devoted the cause of eggs anyway?1925-?Superstar, Egg Maniac | |

Howdy, Just saying hello and directing aanyone who has not yet seen it to this cheesy treasure trove of Criswell-tinted delights: http://www.evil-pumpkin.com/jake/criswell/index.html Incredibly the site is still online despite not been updated in some years (I believe). I have already downloaded the various deeply hilarious Criswell soundfiles for my listening and dining pleasure - I suggest you do likewise! Criswell may well have predicted that you would do just that... | |

Question | [15 Mar 2005|03:31pm] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | confused ] I don't have a paid account but I have always been able to do community searched. That's how I found the communities I am in. As of today LJ is telling me that you can't do a community search unless you are a paid customer. This doesn't make sense to me. Anyone else have this problem? | |

I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this, but I just got back from the dollar theatre. Seed of Chucky was bad, but better than I thought. That, and there was mention of Glen or Glenda?. Chucky's kid didn't know if s/he was a girl or boy... Chucky called "him" Glen and Tiffany called "her" Glenda... there were a couple other small Wood remarks and all. I would tell you what happend with the kid... I mean, how they chose the gender and all, but I don't want to ruin it for anyone who wants to watch the movie. | |

So, my sis and my friend both bought Ed Wood on DVD yesterday. I must say... I'm happy. I'm also happy that they showed the wonderful theremin in the special features. PSFor Halloween, I have a faux pink angora sundress, I'm blacking out my front teeth, and wearing a cute little mustache. I thought it was cool... I surprised my friend when he saw me modeling it. Apparantly, he is a huge fan of Mr. Wood. Happy the two of us have something in common. | |

Hi everyone. My name is Stephanie and I'm 29 years old. I have some unusual interests as you can see by looking at my user info.I hope that won't be a problem in regards to me being here. I'm a new Ed fan. Like a lot of people I got interested in him after seeing the fantastic film Ed Wood. Now I want to see his actual movies.Does anyone know of a place to find a schedule of when they will be on tv? I tried tv.now com but that only lets you search for actors. If anyone can give me any help I'd appreciate it. | |

Today is the anniversary of Bela Lugosi's death, so honor his memory by watching one of the many films by Ed Wood in which he starred. And Criswell's b-day is coming up on Wednesday. - Bibi | |

[ **mood** | blah ] Ok guys, here's the thing, I'm kind of leaving LJ for a while. I think I need a bit of a dose of reality. This community is dead and I'm really upset by this. Anyhow... There are a few actions I can take.1) Visit from time-to-time maintaining and updating and keeping you all up-to-date as best as I can. Eventually start working on improving the comm.2)Give up the community, which I'm really unwilling to do.3) appoint a co-mod to do option 1, until I get myself together and return. 4) Close the comm down, which isn't anywhere near an option. | |
