EIT Food leads the world’s largest and most dynamic food innovation community. At EIT Food, we accelerate innovation to build a future-fit food system that produces healthy and sustainable food for all. EIT Food is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). At EIT Food North-East, we work closely with a diverse network of partners across Nordics, Baltic countries and Central and Eastern Europe. This includes key industry players, agrifood startups, research centres and universities from our region. Together, and as part of the wider EIT Food Community, we are all working together to deliver an innovative and entrepreneurial food sector. We are particularly focused driving innovation in the areas of sustainable aquaculture, sustainable agriculture, and targeted nutrition. Our Strategic Partner takes European food innovation all the way to Asia! 🌏 The Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research, one of our partners, traveled far to showcase European food innovation at the prestigious China-Central and Eastern European Countries Local Leaders Conference, held at Shandong University. During the event, Prof. Mariusz Piskuła, Director of the Institute, delivered a keynote speech that underscored the transformative power of the EIT Food #community in driving innovation and sustainability within the global food system. This forum, the sixth of its kind, brought together over 300 participants, including academics, business leaders, diplomats, and government officials. ⏳ Just 7 days to go! The "Futures of Food through #Biotechnology and #Bioprocessing" side event at Slush is just around the corner! On November 20, in Helsinki, we will gather to showcase some of the most innovative startups revolutionising the food industry. 💡 One of the greatest strengths of the EIT Food Accelerator Network program is its #diversity. While all startups in the Helsinki cohort are connected by the theme of "food #bioprocessing," each one brings a unique approach and represents different corners of Europe. Meet the last 2 startups that will be pitching: 🌊 New Wave Biotech is a software company developing a tool for companies using fermentation as their means of production to model and simulate their processes, optimising them. This UK-based startup is aiming to make the industry leaner and reduce unproductive use of resources. Pitching on stage the co-founder and CEO, Zoe Yu Tung Law🍼 PFx Biotech, Lda on the other hand is based in Portugal and got founded to solve a real issue: allergy to cow milk proteins. Using precision fermentation, they’ve developed specialty proteins similar to those found in human milk. These proteins are suitable as ingredients in various applications in advanced nutrition. At our event, the spotlight will be cast on the founder and CEO of the startup, Ali Osman. We’re thrilled to share that our event has been a tremendous success, with 250 registrations! 🌱 Food begins in the field🌱🌾 And for the past two days, EIT Food has had an especially agricultural focus, with not one but two major events! In Serbia, our conference on #RegenerativeAgriculture and the EU #GreenDeal gathered experts, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss how regenerative farming can shape sustainable agricultural policies, aligning practices with the goals of the EU Green Deal. "We’re thrilled to bring together agricultural producers, processors, #agrifood companies, media, scientists, NGOs, banks, and donors-all in one place. This collaboration highlights the power of tackling sustainability challenges together🤝." said Mirjana Lalošević, Agro Manager at Donau Soja Organisation who co-operate with on the Regenerative Agriculture Programme. Simultaneously, in Poland, we organised a study visit for Polish #Danone 's dairy farmers to see regenerative farming methods in action. The group visited Top Farms Group in Głubczyce, where they explored soy processing, milk production, and innovative livestock feeding practices. Today, the study visit continues in the Czech Republic, where we’ll be touring another regenerative farm to gain even more hands-on insights. These events highlight EIT Food’s commitment to fostering knowledge exchange and promoting sustainable agriculture across the region 🌾. Announcing the winners of the “HACK Agrifood Challenge Lab ’24”! 🏆🌿 For the 4th time, this #ChallengeLab has proven that even the most pressing challenges in the #agrifood sector can be tackled by Lithuanian innovators. Over two days, talented students from the fields of technology, social sciences, communication, and marketing strengthened their knowledge and learned how to put their ideas into practice through creative workshops with the support of mentors and clients. They addressed many challenges to improve our food system, focusing on: 🚀 Healthier lives through food 🚀 Reducing risks for a fair and resilient food system 🚀 Achieving a net-zero food system Despite being overwhelmed by the number of innovative ideas this year, we had to select only one winner, who received €2000 to bring their idea to life: 🥇 The team "Skruzdėlynas" tackled the challenge of encouraging the shift to alternative proteins. Their prototype: alternative proteins made from willow oyster mushroom powder. Thank you to all the participants for bravely taking on this challenge and showcasing your creativity and dedication to driving change in the agrifood sector.
