6:56 pm - The "Myspace.com" issue
cheese_goddess Most of you probably know what myspace.com is.... you should also know that many Annies have myspaces and check them regularly. This year, I heard one girl talking about or updating her myspace during school at least four times a week. So, at the end of the year, some of the myspace-addicts in the senior class convinced some of the rest of us to create myspaces... at the time, we figured it would be a great way to keep in contact with other Annies. Today, my parents recieved a letter from AWS saying that the school demanded that AWS students delete their myspaces. They said, "normally, this would not bea problem; however many of the students are using personal pictures as well as giving out personal information, including naming their school, Annie Wright." The school enclosed printed copies of myspaces that it found for each student. Yes, folks, my parents printed a copy of my myspace and mailed it to my parents, with a lengthy letter talking about "What Can You Do To Minimize The Chances Of An On-line Exploiter Victimizing Your Child?" The thing that really gets me is that the school printed out my myspace THE DAY AFTER I created it. Naturally, I feel really stupid... of all the times to jump on the myspace bandwaggon.... Actually, my myspace was completely boring and didn't have any content, let alone embarassing content, on it. The only piece of information it had was that I was from the AWS class of 2005. (Remember how we wanted a way to stay in contact with other Annies?) At the end of the letter, it says, "if you feel the need to investigate your students internet history and usage, and need assistance doing this please contact either Lisa Jones, Bill Wellington, or Kwame Pobee at the school." The letter goes on to read, "we will be adding a statement to our acceptable use policy to address this issue for next year. Students who are posting to any web site using the Annie Wright name or uniform, constitutes possible liable, we request that the student stop or we may have to take further action." Which brings me to my actual point: Does that include this community? I mean, obviously, we are posting to a website using the AWS name... And then I wonder, since most of us are alumns, can they really do anything? I mean, is the school actually going to have fit over a bunch of former Annies keeping a less-than-regularly-updated LJ community?I guess i am just wondering what other people think about this.... 8 lost ties && we're all crazy

12:13 pm - Book about AWS
cheese_goddess Two things:1. Ms. Garrison and Mr. Kokozka finally got engaged. She is looking for a job at another school next year, so this is the end of their time at AWS.2. Stanley Cummings, former headmaster of AWS, wrote a book about how much he hated it. The book is called "behind the hedge". "Annie Wright" is changed to "Florence Bruce Seminary." Here's the product description:***Tom Whitman, behind the wheel on Route 66 heading east with Allison at his side and their cat Caesar curled up on the backseat, would soon find himself immersed in a maelstrom of unimagined dimension. Newly appointed headmaster of Florence Bruce Seminary, Tom was heading toward an unexpected clash of styles and of cultural expectations. His ingrained instincts for sound management were about to challenge the charismatic, lackadaisical leadership style left behind by the former headmaster. In some respects, the differences would be as great as the clash between Indian and white had been three hundred and fifty years earlier. Violence perpetrated on the school and the community by both bystander and combatant would be traumatic. Rules, laws, agreements, accepted tenets of human behavior, simple decency, contracts—written and unwritten—among people of accepted good standing and integrity would be thrown away with abandon or gleefully ignored. In their place, frontier justice—any means to achieve the ends—would be sufficient justification for actions of intense cruelty. The most basic assumptions regarding safety, fair play, due process and continuity would be destroyed; and those who believed that the operating assumptions at Florence Bruce Seminary were based on decency, dignity and respect would be horrified at the level to which these values were betrayed.***I'd love to know what you all think. 7 lost ties && we're all crazy

7:58 pm - all school play
dorothy3x7 most, or at least some of you have probably already heard about this, but the all school play is coming up. It's 'Scapin' - it's a French slap stick comedy written by Molière and adapted by Bill Irwin. the performances are feb. 11 and 12th. i think the times are at 7 or 7.30 on the 11th and at 2 and 7 or 7.30 on the 12th. we're charging for tickets, 5and5 and 5and3 for students, but the proceeds are going to go to Tacoma Actors Guild, because they have no funding and are in danger of being shut down/have been shut down. if you could all come, we'd love the support! 4 lost ties && we're all crazy
