The authors have measured the temperature dependences of the magnetoresistance of single-crystall... more The authors have measured the temperature dependences of the magnetoresistance of single-crystalline UNiGe for both parallel (i//B//c-axis) and perpendicular configurations (i//a-axis, B//c-axis) in magnetic fields up to 18 T. Both configurations yield similar magnetoresistance behavior, which emphasizes the strong magnetic contribution to the resistivity in all directions. Crossing magnetic-phase boundaries causes anomalies in the magnetoresistance, which allowed a completion of the previously proposed magnetic phase diagram.

We study the neutrino mixing matrix (the MNS matrix) in the seesaw model. By assuming a large mas... more We study the neutrino mixing matrix (the MNS matrix) in the seesaw model. By assuming a large mass hierarchy for the heavy right-handed Majorana mass, we show that, in the diagonal Majorana base, the MNS matrix is determined by a unitary matrix, S, which transforms the neutrino Yukawa matrix, yν, into a triangular form, y △ . The mixing matrix of light leptons is VKM S ′ * , where VKM ≡ VLe † VLν and S ′ * ≡ VLν † S * . Large mixing may occur without fine tuning of the matrix elements of y △ even if the usual KM-like matrix VKM is given by VKM = 1. This large mixing naturally may satisfy the experimental lower bound of the mixing implied by the atmospheric neutrino oscillation.

We find that the 3 × 6 MNS matrix contains six independent phases, three of which are identified as a Dirac phase and two Majorana phases in the light neutrino sector while the remaining three arise from the mixing of the light neutrinos and heavy neutrinos. We show how to determine these phases from physical observables. *
