The subject of this study is an original concept of a new residential district with a ring-shaped layout, which was developed as a result of the urban-architectural competition conducted by the City of Piła in the period between 2021 and 2022.

Beside the typical single-family housing solutions from the second half of 20th century (the so-called “Polish cube”) it is possible to point out some examples of houses designed according to the world’s leading design tendencies of that time. Those buildings were established on individual requests of the social elites including scientists, directors and government officials. One of such objects is a modernist villa from the 1960s located in Ustroń – a popular resort at the foot of the Beskid Mountains and built for General Jerzy Ziętek. There is a lack of its accurate, systematic documentation, which would become a basis for a conservation project. Here, we demonstrate a response to this problem which results in the development of a precise inventory documentation and representation of the investigated object, which is a valuable heritage of post-war modernism architecture. Methodology presented in this paper is based on combination of digital tools such as UAV photogrammetry and HBIMmodelling and by adding a rich database obtained through thorough research.

One of such objects is a modernist villa from the 1960s located in Ustroń-a popular resort at the foot of the Beskid Mountains, built for General Jerzy Ziętek. The current owner has plans for potential future renovation. However, there is a lack of its accurate, systematic documentation, which would become a basis for a conservation project. Here, we demonstrate a response to this problem which results in the development of a precise inventory documentation and representation of the investigated object. Methodology presented in this paper was based on combination of novel techniques such as UAV photogrammetry and HBIM modelling and by leveraging additional information derived from common representation methods. The main idea was to create a low-cost workflow in complex conditions. The obtained model allowed for interoperability and creating a flexible set of data about the objects focused on future renovations. The results will contribute to enrichment of the state of knowledge about modernist architecture and allow for a deeper understanding of how challenging methods of data acquisition and digital representation can go cost-effective.
The architectural heritage of the former Eastern Bloc (behind the Iron Curtin), including Poland,... more The architectural heritage of the former Eastern Bloc (behind the Iron Curtin), including Poland, was until recently treated as a "dissonant" heritage of Communism. Increasing time distance allows an objective look at the indisputable values of this architecture and to reject of the political connotations. Conservatory protection of this architectural heritage is very difficult and complex, particularly referring to individual residential houses of those times. Currently, such sites, remaining in the hands of private owners, undergo uncontrollable transformations leading to their irreversible deformations. The objective of the presented project was to develop the methodology of their conservation on a precisely selected example of a building located in Katowice, Upper Silesia. The obtained results may be used as the basis for creation of a model procedure related to the studied individual residential houses and for preparing a package of conservation guidelines and recommendations for their upgrades and adaptation to modern standards.
