_7:21 pm_[sunlit_mists] Certifying Doula - offering free labour support services I am a DONA trained birth doula, who is looking to provide free labour support services in exchange for completing a short review of my services after the birth. I have attended a number of births, previous to beginning my certification process. I trained with the Seattle Midwifery school, and have completed an extensive Breastfeeding support course. I believe every woman who wants a doula, should have access to a doula, and even after my certification is complete, intend to offer low cost/ sliding scale fees. I offer, Prenatal classes, including: how to prepare for birth, things to consider when choosing where to birth, and help with writing a birth plan. Continuous support at your home or hospital, from the beginning of labour, through to the early postpartum period. Breastfeeding support and encouragement, as well as referrals to community support when needed. Support for the entire family, including dad, grandparents and other children. For more information, or for answers to any questions, please respond to this post. I am accepting clients immediately, and it is never too late to choose to have a doula !I primarily focus on women planning to birth from Burnaby to Abbotsford, but will consider births in Vancouver if Mom really desires assistance. _12:30 pm_[raining_peace] National Day to Empower Teen Parents If this post violates the community guidlines, please let me know and I will remove it ASAP.The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is coming upon us once again. Now, I'm all for preventing unwanted pregnancies, but I am not pleased with the way the NCPTP slanders teen parents and tries to keep them down in order to further their cause. Previous ad campains have used the words "Dirty", "Cheap", "Useless" , and "Nobody" to describe teen parents. All parents need support, especially those for whom the odds are against. There are so many issues facing teen parents that make just being able to care for their children difficult. Lack of access to affordable childcare and flexible schooling, limited financial resources, and unstable relationships are just some of the many obstacles that a teen mother might be up against.I propose that on May 2, (or the weekend following) the same day the NCPTP is held, that we hold a counter event in Vancouver, BC. The International Day to Empower Teen Parents campaign should include information about pregnancy options (it WILL be a pro-choice event), support services for pregnant teens and young parents in the area, information on financial aid in the form of welfare, EI, and community service agencies.I am a young mama myself, and don't have much financial resources available to me, but I'm very passionate about this and would like to make this happen. If anyone would like to help in the organizing, help out at the actual event, or give suggestions on how to do this on a low budget, I'd like to hear from you. If the response is big enough, I will be holding a planning meeting within the next 2 weeks.X-posted everywhere. (2 Comments |Comment on this)

_11:51 am_[kittenjunkie] Free Haircut! My co-classmate is looking for a blunt bob model for our graduation strut, so if you have a bob or would like one for free, please comment and I'll send you her way. Appointment availabilities: Jan 16th-19th, 5:30-7pm. My friend is bubbly, talented and lots of fun, and during this time she'll do your actual cut. Class ends at 9:30, so you won't be out any later than that. Graduation Station: Jan 20th, call at 5:15 - to be appropriately dolled up for the show at 7:30. Address: 220 Cambie St - John Casablancas, at Water and Cambie streets. The show itself, though necessary, is not a huge stressful deal. You'll just be doing a little walk around the salon for the class and their cohorts, we will all love you and clap for you, and you get cake at the end. It's really win-win. Who's in?
