Pirates of the Caribbean Costume Community (original) (raw)
Well, I know it'll be a long shot for another PotC (not that I truly want to see them stretch out the series. It'll turn sour, like most good ideas that get picked at ... ) but I've decided to get my hands dirty with my biggest project yet: Captain Hector Barbossa.
After tackling Jack, getting that finished to the very best of my knowledge, I still wasn't overly satisfied. His was a rather simple outfit, when one finds the proper fabrics. I knew Barbossa would be much more of a challenge, and I'd been collecting various trims and fabrics ever since the 1st Pirates came out on DVD, in hopes that I would have the guts to tackle it one day.
Well, that day has come. I'll be attending the Port Washington Pirate Festival come June 6th-9th. And you better believe I will be donning my 'upholstered monstrosity' as I so lovingly refer to it. I've also got plans to wear it to my local comic book convention Wizard World, as well as no doubt wear it for Halloween this year and the Bristol Ren Faire on opening day, July 5th.
Well, enough blabbering. I've got a picture of my 95% finished costume and I thought I'd share it with you all here. I'm very open to any critiques any of you might have of it. Personally, I think the shirt collar is a bit too big. And what's not finished is, of course, the buttons on the coat and some on the vest. I've just been too lazy to sit down and deal with all those buttons, after having spent close to 10 hours making that coat! Now, all I need is to find me a capuchin monkey that will be my very best friend ... (yeah, RIGHT!)
Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!
