The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked a global economic crisis. Different economies have been hit by the effects of this crisis to varying degrees. The aim of the article is to answer the question: what are the consequences of the pandemic in individual European Union countries in terms of three basic indicators describing the economic situation? These indicators are: the rate of increase/decrease of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the unemployment rate and the budget balance. The period of analysis included in the article is 2019 (pre-pandemic year), 2020 and 2021 (two pandemic years). The article proposes three approaches to building a ranking arranging European Union countries according to the criterion of the degree to which they coped with the effects of the pandemic crisis in the three mentioned areas. The results obtained in the individual rankings differ from each other, which can be interpreted as the lack of clear relative winners and losers of the pandemic. In addition, on the basis of the three specified approaches, a meta-ranking was prepared, including the findings of these rankings. The article ends with comments on the prospects for the development of the economic situation of the European Union countries in the post-pandemic future.

Globalization and digitalisation are constantly shifting the sources of market advantage forcing companies to adapt. New technologies, products and services are continuously appearing. They create new business models which replace the old and contribute to new ways of corporate value creation. The paper presents new business models based on examples of companies such as Uber, or Airbnb. Changes in technology have been explained by the so-called G.Moore's law which supports new business models as well as the Internet of Things and the Internet of Energy, and 3D printing technology. Sharing, openness and transparency have become the foundations of new business models. Breakthrough technologies diversify opportunities for new businesses and new ways of value creation. Internet technologies create new combinations of products, services and business models and, step-by-step, replace the old ...

Still, in existing literature, there is a visible emphasis on the perspective of the acquiring firm and its characteristics in affecting M&A performance. Moreover, the role of trust, both from the acquiring and acquired firms, has not received extensive attention to date. The present paper builds on a quantitative and qualitative study of Israeli high-tech start-ups acquired by international firms to explore the effects of trust on M&A success. Our study indicates that trust from acquired firm managers positively affects acquisition success, although trust from the acquiring firm (expressed with the autonomy that it leaves to the acquired firm) is not a significant predictor of acquisition success.

Strategic management is necessarily a multi-paradigmatic discipline, requiring varied theoretical perspectives and methodologies. The purpose of this paper is to present and assess the evolution of corporate strategic management in the first decade of the current century, particularly under the influence of the recent economic crisis. For the last two decades strategic management has been dominated by a resource-based view. Recently we can distinguish two important perspectives of research: behavioral and institutional. The first regards decision-making processes of company executives based on considerable progress made by psychologists in identifying and validating fundamental cognitive constructs which are promising for advancing theory and research on top management teams. The institutional perspective is based on increased realization of the importance of national and global institutions for the competitiveness of companies, sectors and countries.

Research Design & Methods: The objectives of this qualitative study are pursued in the context of acquired high-tech start-ups in Israel. The study employed semi-structured interviews. The practical model for analysing the transcribed interview responses was based on Shkedi's (2003) method, drawing also from the grounded theory tradition in the process of coding and interpreting data categories. Findings: The results of this research highlight the communication climate (comprising factors such as openness, trust, supportiveness and interest of top managers in the employee's well-being) as a vital behavioural mechanism influencing post-acquisition performance. Also, we found that effective knowledge transfer to the acquired company is one of the essential determinants of success. Implications & Recommendations: M&A require a clear business plan, that which is based on realistic needs. A major fault in many start-ups is focus on technology rather than on strategy. Many start-ups are established and staffed by engineers and scientists who often believe, erroneously, that a good product will sell. Contribution & Value Added: In extant research, most attention has been paid to the acquiring company perspective on success. In contrast, this study focuses on the seller's perspective and contribution to M&A success, instead of on the buyer's perspective. Article type: research paper

For this reason evolutionary economics should take into account the results of behavioural economics’ research based on modern psychology and neuroscience. It is not a unified theory, but rather a collection of ideas in opposition to the traditional economics (so called mainstream economics, neoclassical or ortodox). The purpose of the paper is to present Adam Smith's theory against a background of different concepts of contemporary behavioral economists. The basic subject of economics as a scientific theory is a human being. Homo sapiens is a creator of econosphere the global economic system consisting of billions of people and organizations which are multiplying achievements of our civilization. Therefore, at the core of any economic theory must be a theory of human behavior. The presented comparative analysis demonstrates an amazing convergence between A.Smith's theory and contemporary behavioral economics. Thus, the article supports opinion that present economics is returning to the roots of eighteen century classical economics. This reversion is supplemented by modern knowledge regarding complex evolutionary systems, psychology and sociology, and supported by the latest technical achievements of neuroeconomics allowing an insight into chemical and physical processes in a human brain. Thanks to that, economics is becoming an experimental science.

The article consists of four sections. The first section presents briefly the theoretical background of transformation with special attention paid to macroeconomic context, the institutional setup, and the competitiveness determinants of the economies. Successive sections present empirical comparative analyses of the transformation process. Therefore, the second section discusses the initial conditions of the transition in countries under examination. The third section is devoted to the analysis of selected growth factors and barriers. It attempts to identify the reasons for differentiation between transition processes and their present results. The fourth section focuses on general outcomes of transformation in terms of GDP per capita and selected measures of economies competitiveness. The analysis is concluded with final remarks.

Stoi za tym m.in. wielki postęp technologiczny, udoskonalenie infrastruktury i zmiany w systemie edukacji. Reforma systemu wyższej edukacji przeprowadzona w końcu XX w. wprowadziła podział na dwa typy uniwersytetów: podlegające ministerstwu edukacji i podlegające władzom regionalnym. Zdecydowana większość to te drugie.

The main objective of the chapter is to discuss the influence of CEOs on effectiveness of strategic processes. During the last three decades, strategic management scholars absorbed a lot of concepts from psychology. The achievements in the operationalization of an individual’s character traits have been adopted to describe CEOs’ behaviour, and particularly: hubris, narcissism and charisma. The planning fallacy means that each planning process is fraught at every stage with the potential for distortions in judgment that result from behavioural biases.

It uses the ideas of three great strategists - practitioners: Chinese ancient commander Sun Tzu, Prussian general Carl von Clausewitz and the CEO of General Electric, Jacek Welch. The main purpose of this trip is to look for sources of business success. The reader will find here examples of famous global corporations and less known Polish companies. The author shows how innovative strategies become a source of wealth for their founders and a driver of progress for societies.
The heroes of the book are entrepreneurs and managers. The fate of companies depends on their consequences, knowledge and intuition. The implementation of the strategy is based on a collective morale: owners, managers and employees.
The book is dedicated to students as well as practitioners - participants of post-graduate studies, MBA and specialized training. It should also be interesting for business analysts, politicians and all people interested in business issues.

What connects the authors, despite the use of various concepts and cognitive models, is the evolutionary approach associated with the belief that man and entire societies are the result of long-term development processes. These processes have their own rules. The book is the result of a three-year collaboration of scientists from the Poznań academic community as part of an interdisciplinary seminar entitled "The paradigm of evolution in social sciences."
The main goal of the seminar is the integration of social sciences through the paradigm of evolution through discussions, knowledge sharing and cooperation in joint projects. The seminars are attended by representatives of various disciplines: economists, psychologists, sociologists, cognitive scientists, lawyers, anthropologists, linguists, biologists, zoologists and IT specialists.
The book shows new opportunities for joint research and enriching knowledge in the field of social sciences and humanities. It can be an inspiration for various scientific communities in the field of organizing interdisciplinary teams. A good example is the development of evolutionary economics as a result of cooperation of economists, psychologists, sociologists, as well as representatives of other disciplines. The book is intended not only for lecturers, but also for PhD students, managers, politicians and everyone interested in new trends in science.

The work is in a broad resource-based view that has dominated the theoretical concepts of strategic management since the early 1990s. The main resource of modern enterprises is their employees, and above all the managers who manage them.
The first two chapters of the book are introductory and present the evolution of strategic management, as well as the assumptions of behavioral economics. The next four chapters present the growing impact of behavioral concepts on: creating an evolutionary environment in an enterprise, changes in the theory of competing, the evolution of the concept of strategic leadership and creating the value of an enterprise. Chapter seven describes bibliometric research that has shown the growing importance of concepts specific to behavioral economics, as well as strengthening the interdisciplinary nature of strategic management.
