Requesting help with a Pilot Study [14 Feb 2010|09:35pm]
Hi Everyone!I am hoping that some of you out there might be willing to help me out. I'm currently putting together a pilot of some questions for use in a major project I have coming up. Although I will be putting together a more formal pilot soon, I am hoping to get some responses and maybe feedback sooner. The survey will take around 10 minutes and is entirely multiple choice. We are hoping to get a sense of mock jurors' perceptions of child witnesses in criminal cases. If you would like more information, to take a look, or are willing to help me with this pilot, you can find the survey below.Thank you to anyone willing to help out! Click here to take survey EDIT: Apologies for the crappy HTML link...not sure why it looks wierd ><

How does one go about getting an approved supervisor for an LPC license in Oklahoma? [14 Jun 2009|01:34am]
[ **mood** | confused ] I'm a master's level counselor moving to Oklahoma, and I'm a bit confused about how to go about getting an approved supervisor. Do I just start sending letters to people on the approved supervisor list? Or do most people get an approved supervisor at their jobsites? Most jobs require candidates to be "under supervision," so is it usual for LPC candidates to have a supervisor outside of their workplace?

Bored? How about play on MySpace for an educational benefit! [23 Mar 2009|10:22pm]
Undergraduate Research Participants Needed: Personality Perceptions on Social Networking SitesThe purpose of this study is to examine the similarities or differences between self reported personalities and perceived personalities on social networking sites. As a participant, you will be asked to provide basic demographics and your education background. You will then view screenshots of four MySpace pages and rate each individual’s personality dimensions based on what you see on his or her page. Approximately 15 to 30 minutes should be allotted to complete this survey. Please note you must be over the age of 18 to take this survey and some MySpace pages could contain offensive or adult content. Your participation in this study does not involve any physical risk to you; however, it is possible that filling out the questionnaires may be uncomfortable for some individuals. If this happens to you, you may stop at any time. Click here to take survey * Note: Extra credit may be available to students who attend Psychology undergraduate classes at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Please be sure to check with your Professor to make sure that they will accept extra credit in the form of research participation first. Stats help. [17 Mar 2009|09:17pm]
Hey everyone! I am so confused on this question. I can do well with t-tests, but this one just doesn't feel familiar to anything I've been learning in stats, or rather I can decide which method to use. In my study group, we decided to use a z-score bcuz the mean is given as well as standard deviation of .25. I just don't understand this other distribution crap! Do I use a z-core, or conduct a z-test??Please help. The question is as follows:For the past year I have spent about 4.00adayforlunch,giveortakeaquarterorso.If,withoutlookingatthebill,Ipaidformylunchwitha4.00 a day for lunch, give or take a quarter or so.If, without looking at the bill, I paid for my lunch with a 4.00adayforlunch,giveortakeaquarterorso.If,withoutlookingatthebill,Ipaidformylunchwitha5 bill and received .75inchange,shouldIworrythatIwasovercharged?WhyorWhynot?ShouldIworryaboutbeingoverchargedifthebillis.75 in change, should I worry that I was overcharged? Why or Why not? Should I worry about being overcharged if the bill is .75inchange,shouldIworrythatIwasovercharged?WhyorWhynot?ShouldIworryaboutbeingoverchargedifthebillis4.75? Why or Why not?Explain the logic involved in your answers by referring to the distribution of lunch prices and z scores.

Question for MFT interns and LMFT [17 Feb 2009|02:41pm]
Hello,I am currently living in Southern California and working on my masters in marriage and family therapy. I am a little bit discouraged about how the job market it not the greatest for MFTs and how little we get paid initially.I was wondering if there are any MFTs out there who live in Los Angeles County who could tell me about their experiences finding jobs, how fulfilling they are, and whether or not they now regret spending the time (and money) in obtaining the degree? Thanks so much!

Question to PhD students [31 Jan 2009|03:15pm]
Hello everyone,I have a few questions to doctorate clinical or counseling psychology students.I am interested in the interview part of the application process, and in your personal experience in particular. Here are my questions:In case the program offers applicants 4 possible days to chose for an interview, which consequent day do you think it is the best to have an interview? How many applicants are usually invited for an interview, and how many are accepted/rejected afterwards? What happens during an interview? What are typical procedures? What is the best way to get prepared? What does faculty usually test during an interview? I would really appreciate your answers!MarusyaPS I have just received an invitation for an interview at the Counseling Psychology PhD program which is APA accredited, and which accepts 6-8 people out of 60-70 applicants pool. I have passed the 1st step of the application process, and I am very worried about the interview part.

Grad School Name [21 Apr 2008|03:05pm]
Hi, I am a graduating senior, heading to a PsyD program next year. It is part of a lesser known university which I think is a positive, as opposed to a freestanding school or professional psych school....My question is, does it really matter where I go to school? I am a little bit of a school brand snob so I am not sure if it matters, or if I am just worrying too much about the name. Thanks!!

first year experiences [09 Apr 2008|08:48am]
Hi all! So, I'm beyond excited that I was recently accepted into my #1 choice grad school(an MA program in Clinical-Counseling)! YaY me! I'd like to begin mentally preparing myself. I realize everyone has a different experience but I'm curious about the first year of grad school. And unlike with my undergrad degree, I'd like to start off on the right foot. I now know this means seeking advice from other students in the program (because advisers can have very skewed senses of a student reality). So, I'm hoping some of you can share your experience with me and maybe offer some helpful advice too :) Was your program what you expected? What kinds of things did you struggle with? What did you really like? Was it hard to get into the swing of things? Did you have to balance work and school? Any and all info/advice is appreciated. Thanks!
